KIPP Public Schools is a national network of free, open enrollment, college-preparatory public schools dedicated to supporting all students to reach their highest aspirations. There are 270 KIPP schools across the nation serving more than 120,000students. Nationally, KIPP students have a 4X higher graduation rate than that of their peers.

KIPP Metro Atlanta currently operates eleven KIPP schools including four primary schools, five middle schools, one K-7 school, and one high school, as well as the KIPP Forward program which supports students through college, career, and beyond. 

Job Description

The KIPP Forward - Director of Operations serves as a key member of the KIPP Forward Leadership Team. KIPP Forward - Director of Operations, oversees all finance and operations functions necessary to run a high-performing regional program. This includes budgeting, purchasing, facilities support (in collaboration with the high school Director of Operations), food services, transportation, technology, medical/health services, school safety, alumni engagement, student and alumni data, regulatory compliance, and human resource support. The position also calls for managing scholarships and creating original marketing materials when necessary. 

As a KIPP Forward - Director of Operations your core responsibilities include;

KIPP Forward Operations Leadership & Management

  • Plays a leadership role in developing the KIPP Forward strategic annual plan and budget, and collaborates on campus-wide operations planning with the high school, Director of Operations
  • Hires, manages, coaches, and develops the alumni re-engagement role (temporary)
  • Holds school partners and vendors accountable to goals and outcomes
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for the Regional Shared Service Team, responding to requests and collaborating with teammates across the region to build scalable, region-wide systems, policies, and procedures
  • Owns logistics of communications and external relations through KIPP Forward newsletters, staff and alumni surveys; serves as KIPP Forward liaison with regional support team   
  • Manages KIPP Forward social media platforms and social media contact with alumni
  • Create marketing materials highlighting KIPP Forward Programming in alignment with KIPP Foundation and regional guidelines
  • Coordinate meetings and events for KIPP Forward staff and alumni
  • Operates and maintains meeting, PTO and offsite calendars for the KIPP Forward staff
  • Assist with KIPP Forward and KIPP Metro Atlanta website changes, updates and uploads in collaboration with the regional Marketing and communications team
  • Provide general administrative support to the KIPP Forward Team as outlined by the Managing Director
  • Manage scholarship application and distribution process for High School and College students
  • Partners with the regional Talent Team on the new hire onboarding process (e.g. technology, email set up, etc.)
  • Owns all logistics (e.g. transportation, lodging, meals, staffing plan, etc.) of all off-site and on-site special events (College and Career Fairs, Reveal the Shield, etc.)
  • Serves as point person for hosting visitors on-site KIPP Forward tours in collaboration with the Managing Director
  • Ensures all visitors and personnel interacting with students have appropriate background checks on file; and comply with all areas of legal compliance (e.g. HR, FERPA, etc.)
  • Supports the Managing Director with the process for offboarding terminated employees and partners with the regional Talent Team on any action items surrounding the exit logistics
  • Reviews time-off data provided by the Talent Team to ensure accuracy and assess leave trends
  • Partners with the regional Talent Team to communicate leave needs and critical dates, and assists in facilitation of employee leaves

Finance, Purchasing, & Travel Coordination

  • Works closely with the Managing Director of KIPP Forward to develop the program’s annual budget and actively manages the budget throughout the year 
  • Manages the purchasing process by establishing clear systems for staff to request items, placing orders with vendors, tracking delivery, and coding and submitting purchase orders, invoices, and reimbursement requests; approves all purchases under a specific financial threshold
  • Serves as the first point of contact regarding finance and works with regional Finance team to ensure financial compliance and reporting
  • Arranges travel coordination for all KIPP Forward team members using and enforcing the KIPP Metro Atlanta travel guidelines

Student Information, Testing, and Academic Operations Support

  • Manages systems for and maintains accurate student data and information in compliance with KIPP Foundation and regional expectations
  • Leads KIPP Forward owned student program and assessment process, working closely with the KAC Leadership team and KIPP Forward Directors to fully manage the logistical elements of all major student assessments and programs 
  • Manage all basic administrative functions including user account maintenance, reports and dashboards in Salesforce
  • Implement processes that ensure the accurate, consistent collection and maintenance of scholar information in Salesforce
  • Collect, verify, and analyze information for data reporting
  • Provide requested reports for presentation to various stakeholders including monthly board reports for KIPP Forward

Qualifications

  •  
  • Bachelor’s degree - required;
    • Graduate degree - preferred 
  • 5 years minimum work experience, preferably in education and/or business or operations management  
  • 2 years minimum work experience managing a team and large projects
  • Experience with financial oversight and budget management
  • Strong project and time management skills; ability to effectively backwards plan, juggle multiple priorities with great attention to detail, and deliver consistent and timely results
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills with an aptitude systems-building
  • Sense of humility, urgency, and customer service mindset 
  • Strong ability to proactively solve problems and make decisions quickly
  • Team player with strong interpersonal and stakeholder management and relationship building skills
  • Ability to lead, influence, and hold others accountable to high standards of operational excellence
  • Ability to be calm under pressure, especially in difficult conversations with parents and staff
