Job Description

Here’s what you need to know:

We are looking for an experienced principal to join our team in New Jersey. Our Elementary School Leader is the primary instructional and culture leader in the building and, as such, is responsible for driving outcomes for students through Assistant Principals, Deans, Grade-Level Chairs, Department Chairs, and teachers.  An ideal principal for this role has multiple years of documented success in a elementary school setting and can demonstrate a track record of driving student achievement results through others, building leadership capacity, and developing instructional leaders through pedagogical practices.  The Elementary School Leader will be responsible for setting and communicating a strategic vision and driving toward that vision through the coaching of assistant principals and other leaders, analysis of instructional data, planning, and execution of professional development, and improvement of quality content delivery across the school.

Here's what you’ll be doing:

  • People leadership and performance management
    • Directly manage assistant principals and other leadership team members; conduct weekly meetings with each direct report on instructional strategies, content, observations, school culture, etc.
    • Manage the performance of teachers through APs to get outcomes for kids through observation, feedback, and professional development
    • Work with our assistant principals in setting individual, grade-level/department-wide, and school-wide goals for staff based on school-wide goals and student achievement data
    • Conduct regular classroom observations in conjunction with APs
  • Team leadership
    • Build strong teams characterized by trust, investment in school vision and goals, and ownership – and support other leadership team members in doing the same
  • Talent development
    • Strategically plan the school’s professional development schedule, in collaboration with the network Teaching & Learning team
    • Identify high-potential talent and develop accordingly
    • Manage the growth and capacity-building of next-ready leaders
  • Leadership development
    • Develop APs, GLCs, and next-ready teacher leaders intentionally in order to ensure strong leadership pipelines
    • Lead professional development for APs, GLCs/DCs on teacher development, and lead professional development for teachers on highest leverage strategies for academic systems and effective lesson execution
    • Co-facilitate academic progress monitoring meetings at the school, through the ongoing analysis of student achievement data; collaborate with APs and GLCs/DCs to adjust strategy as needed

  • Achievement orientation: strong student achievement results in a leadership capacity for at least four years
  • Cultural competence: demonstrated ability to create inclusive environments that honor and support a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives
  • Instructional leadership: adept at data analysis and strong elementary school content knowledge; ability to extract meaningful insights and actions from data
  • Successful coaching experience: experience coaching and managing others; experience leading a team to results
