Job Description

KIPP Jacksonville seeks a Science Curriculum Specialist who will serve as a curriculum manager for the four schools across the KIPP Jacksonville region. The SCS furthers our mission by overseeing the full implementation of the K-12 curriculum to lead students to the highest achievement results possible. The SCS ensures students have learning experiences that are aligned to standards, rigorous, and engaging. The SCS is an engaging facilitator who leads professional development about science and teaching best practices, drives data conversations about student progress, models lesson delivery, and offers support where needed.

Success would be measured by science curriculum implementation results and student achievement in science.  The SCS is a full-time,  manager-level role that reports to the Senior Director, Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the upcoming school year and would likely report to a Director of STEM in a future year. The role is on the shared services team and is part of the larger academic team that supports schools. As a member of the shared services team, this individual would be responsible for doing whatever it takes to ensure that students develop the knowledge, skills, and character strengths they need to succeed throughout their education and in the competitive world beyond.

This position is year-round and performs duties as assigned by their manager. Typical hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. but can vary based on role and season.

While KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools does employ academic staff on our shared services team, we are aiming to expand our support with grant funding. This position is temporary in that the role is 100% grant funded by the ESSER II or III allocation. While it is possible funding for this position may be allocated in future years, it is now only funded by this specific grant through June of 2024.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Collaborate with regional and school-based leaders to develop and refine a horizontally and vertically aligned K-12 science framework
  • Develop and facilitate region-wide professional development for teachers in order to build our teachers’ and leaders’ capacity with science content, planning, and instructional execution
  • Oversee the full implementation of Amplify Curriculum across all grade levels, K-8 and Science Curriculum at the high school level including Advanced Placement. 
  • Create and revise regional curriculum calendars in collaboration with the academic team and schools
  • Ensure alignment of curriculum to standards and state assessments
  • Serve as a liaison to school-based content leads with curriculum related questions
  • Analyze regional data in collaboration with regional and school-based leadership to identify areas of need, and support the facilitation of region-wide instructional initiatives that lead us to our goals
  • Monitor all science specials classes for K-2.
  • Monitor and evaluate school-based intervention and instructional technology programs
  • Conduct regular instructional reviews of science-based instruction
  • Serve as a model teacher and assist as needed in the classroom setting
  • Provide coaching as needed to teachers and school-based content leaders
  • Other duties as assigned

  • The starting salary for this role is typically $50,00-$55,000

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • ​​Bachelor’s degree
  • At least four (4) years of relevant teaching experience in K-12 science
  • Evidence of leading or influencing other adults through a teacher-leader, coaching, or administrative role (grade level chair, content chair, department chair, professional development facilitator, coach, assistant principal, etc.)
  • Florida teaching certificate in relevant area or equivalent (K-6, Science 5-9, or Biology/Chemistry 6-12)
  • Demonstrated strong student achievement results in science
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a team of teachers and leaders
  • Outstanding public speaking and writing skills
  • Technological proficiency and adaptability

HIGHLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience as an instructional coach or content specialist 
  • Experience with teaching science in Florida in a tested/assessed grade level
  • Relevant Master’s degree
  • Florida Reading Endorsement or equivalent
  • Experience with Amplify curriculum
