Job Description

Role Overview 

KIPP Kansas City is seeking a Data and Systems Manager to support the creation and maintenance of the regional data analysis, reporting, and use strategy. The Data Analyst will work with the Chief Operations Officer to update and maintain, manage, analyze, and report on school-level and regional data from various sources (e.g., academic, operations, demographic, etc.) pertinent to the regional strategic plan and school base strategic priorities. The KIPP KC Data and Systems Manager serves as an internal advisory function, supporting schools and regional teams (academic, talent, alumni support, operations, HR) with analysis, prediction, and data systems support. The Manager’s work runs the gamut from performing ad hoc analyses and decision support for regional leaders to servicing the software necessary for everyday learning.

 

The Data Systems Manager’s top priorities are ensuring that the data systems that support teaching and learning in our schools operate efficiently, analyzing the data these systems collect and generate, and supporting staff HR needs via our HRIS. This may mean troubleshooting with school operations staff, huddling with the Director of HR, or analyzing data during Data Team meetings. No day is typical, but there are cycles throughout the year. Systems turn-over, set-up, and rostering occur at the start of the school year. In the middle of the year are interim assessments and pilots of new technology.  The end of the year sees many compliance and data reconciliation tasks come to the fore. At times there might be an “all-hands-on-deck” research task to help with a new priority.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities 

  • Audit, update and manage data school and regional data systems 

  • Translate data from multiple sources into relevant insights aligned to key questions 

  • Tailor the complexity of analysis appropriately to audiences with various data literacy skills (e.g., regional team, principals, teachers, Board members, funders, ect.) 

  • Maintain an in depth knowledge of all regional data sources and systems, and stay aware of new updates to incorporate changes into analytical approach and data visualizations

  • Integrate student information system student rosters with educational technology rosters and maintain rostering systems through Clever 

  • Maintain student information systems by keeping track of rosters and transfers and enrollment

  • Execute on internal and external data requests related to student or staff information and other relevant school-level or student-level data 

  • Work with the Director of HR to maintain the data integrity of our Human Resources Information System (HRIS)


Qualifications/Skills 

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in the education field 

  • Robust quantitative and analytical skills, including experience deriving insights from large data sets  

  • In depth knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace; advanced skill with Excel and/or Google Sheets, Smartsheets 

  • Experience with data visualization and dashboard creation tools (i.e., Power BI) preferred 

  • Experience in programming and data analysis languages and/or software (e.g. SQL, R, Stata, SPSS). 

  • Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail and project management skills 

  • Knowledge of the education field, including familiarity with current student data systems (e.g. student information systems such as Infinite Campus, assessment platforms such as Illuminate Education, mCLASS and ANet and relevant data sets (e.g., demographics, student achievement data, attendance ect.).

Additional Information

Salary for this position is $50,000 to $60,000, commensurate with experience. Additionally, KIPP KC offers a comprehensive benefits package including health coverage and retirement.
