KIPP Albany Community Public Charter Schools (KIPP Albany) is a network of high-performing public schools that has been committed to creating joyful, academically excellent schools in Albany since 2005.  KIPP Albany is affiliated with KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) Public Schools, a national network of over 10,000 educators serving 160,000 students and alumni. Further regional growth is on the horizon with the Troy Prep K-12 schools planning to join the KIPP Albany network (new name TBD) at the start of the 2022-23 school year. Serving over 2,500 students in grades K-12 at seven schools across the Capital Region will allow increased curriculum offerings for students, professional development for staff, and enhanced family and community partnerships.

Job Description

Position Overview:

The Director of School Support (DOSS) will be responsible for supporting the school support team to drive high leverage workstreams at the regional level in order to meet the needs of our Albany schools. The DOSS will also directly deliver services for schools and students that can most effectively be performed at the regional level. The position will report to a senior operations leader, and will work closely with school and regional leaders in Albany, the DOSS in Troy, and members of student support teams across KIPP Capital Region. 

Responsibilities

  • Manage all core aid invoicing and billing. Ensure student records and demographic information accuracy across the Albany schools 

  • Manage charter renewal process and liaise with charter authorizer for compliance needs 

  • Ensure that the school support team delivers high quality services for schools and students that can most effectively be performed at the regional level, including but not limited to:

    • Prep “DOO weekly” email containing DOO reminders and action steps for all regional work on which DOOs need to execute and other key updates and information; serve as a resource for DOOs in executing on work;

    • Liaise with KIPP teams to facilitate work in the region and communicate regarding regional needs and priorities

    • Support implementation of student technology across the schools 

    • Organize and manage transportation logistics for students

    • Coordinate and manage any health protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in schools

    • Coordinate closely with regional instruction and operations leaders to create regional calendars and manage the creation of school calendars; 

    • Develop effective regional systems that ensure efficiency for all stakeholders 

  • Determine and manage the strategy and systems to ensure the Albany schools meet targets for full enrollment, including:

    • Determine and project manage student recruitment and enrollment strategy:

      • Define and manage the strategy for student recruitment in the region in collaboration with regional external partners and school teams;

      • Manage student recruitment efforts in the region and ensure all owners including central, regional, and school staff execute on their responsibilities;

    • Drive outreach efforts to reach prospective parents, in connection with regional external teams;

    • Manage student lottery and enrollment systems:

      • Determine and manage the application and lottery process for schools to maximize enrollment;

      • Manage the enrollment process post-lottery with prospective students and families; 

    • Support schools in implementing best practices around maximizing the percentage of students who matriculate to the high school from middle school or from the elementary school to middle school

  • Create and manage regional staff culture initiatives 

  • Identify and carry out additional duties and projects as needed in support of Albany schools, blocking and tackling for schools whenever there are workstreams that can more efficiently or effectively be performed at the regional level.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required;

  • 7+ years of professional experience, including at least 3 years in school operations or directly related field;

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high energy environment with a proven ability to balance multiple deadlines and tasks. Detail orientation is a must;

  • Strong work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit and flexibility to accommodate a high level of responsibility, multiple priorities and changing environment;

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills;

  • Strong customer service approach and communication skills;

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;

  • Excellent computer skills, including the Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;

  • Displays maturity, flexibility, comfort with ambiguity and a sense of humor;

  • A desire to work on a high-performing team and take on additional projects, be creative, and propose new solutions;

  • High sense of urgency; demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple projects concurrently; 

  • Quick and effective learner in a fast-paced, dynamic, entrepreneurial environment that proactively seeks feedback to improve; and

Compensation Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience, and includes benefits.
