About KIPP Albany Community Public Charter Schools

KIPP Albany Community Public Charter Schools (KIPP Albany) is a network of high-performing public schools that has been committed to creating joyful, academically excellent schools in Albany since 2005.  KIPP Albany is affiliated with KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) Public Schools, a national network of over 10,000 educators serving 160,000 students and alumni. For the 2021-2022 school year, KIPP Albany schools will serve over 1,600 students in grades K-8 and will employ more than 225 staff.  We are committed to furthering anti-racism, equity, and racial justice in all our efforts, and expect all of our stakeholders to participate in this work so that we can create a future without limits for our students, together.

Further regional growth is on the horizon with the Troy Prep K-12 schools planning to join the KIPP Albany network (new name TBD) at the start of the 2022-23 school year. Serving over 2,500 students in grades K-12 at seven schools across the Capital Region will allow increased curriculum offerings for students, professional development for staff, and enhanced family and community partnerships.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities of the Director of Academic Data and Assessment include, but are not limited to:

Data Collection:

  • Train and support school-based staff in using data tools and reports in a way that allows them to make effective data-driven decisions

  • Support schools in implementation of all assessments

  • Collect results, gather evidence, and observe in service of data collection to ensure leaders have an accurate picture of student performance with which they can make instructional decisions 

  • Manage the test administration process for all assessments to ensure that testing procedures are routine and include smooth, efficient distribution, administration, and collection of assessments

  • Collaborate with the Special Education Support Staff to ensure that all mandated testing accommodations are adhered to for students with disabilities

  • Print and assemble relevant materials for testing events and data analysis meetings

  • Oversee unit assessment tracking timelines to ensure all assessments are created, administered, scored, and scanned efficiently and allows for timely analysis

Data Reporting & Analysis:

  • Build and maintain data reports and visualizations to display student achievement results and key performance metrics

  • Support school-based staff in using data tools and reports for continuous improvement

  • Provide additional data reporting and analysis as needed for external accountability, compliance, surveys, teacher evaluation or development tasks

Data Use:

  • Work with teachers and instructional leadership to track and analyze data in a way that allows them to make effective data-driven decisions

  • Work with external and internal data that identifies schools'/teachers' achievement strengths and challenges and diagnoses trends

  • Provide support to school-based and regional instructional Teams in the form of consults, training, and professional development sessions

  • Monitor scholar learning in order to identify weaknesses in our curriculum or instruction and evaluate the effectiveness of education programs and academic interventions

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • A strong desire to collaborate with school leaders and regional office teammates in service to a new KIPP region 

  • 8+ years of professional experience in education, including 2+ years in a leadership role with a focus on data and assessments, preferably in a growing and dynamic multi-site organization with at least 500+ employees

    • Track record of success action planning based around student data, leading to enhanced student outcomes

    • Broad knowledge of the assessment programs such as the NYSTP, MAP, STEP, Regents Exams, AP Exams, SAT, ACT, and iReady

  • A masters degree in Statistics, Curriculum, Educational Administration, Educational Leadership or related field is preferred

  • Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving skills

  •  Compelling communication skills

  • Graduate work or related experience in measurement and assessment  

  • Experience planning and implementing staff professional development, consulting and coaching 

  • Familiarity utilizing a broad range of student information systems (e.g. PowerSchool), academic assessment tools and data housing (e.g. IReady, Illuminate) and survey platforms

  • Familiarity with remote learning systems (e.g. Google Classroom, curriculum platforms).

  • Strong command of all Microsoft Office and Google Suite programs

  • Experience manipulating large datasets (working with raw data preferred)

  • Intermediate (or stronger) visual design skills

  • Experience working on a cross-functional team / with multiple stakeholders

  • Deep knowledge of NYS learning standards

  • Familiarity with high-quality curriculum programs for English language arts, mathematics, science and social studies

  • Demonstrates integrity, both in words and actions, and encourages ethical behavior and decision making

  • Possess a deep commitment to both racial equity and supporting success for children from low-income communities
