KIPP Albany launched on July 1, 2020 as the new partnership between KIPP Tech Valley Charter Schools and Albany Community Charter Schools. KIPP Albany is a unified group of schools striving towards excellence in education in the Capital Region, with 1600 students across four schools. KIPP Tech Valley Middle School (KTVM) was founded over 15 years ago in 2005. In 2018-2019, KTVM was named a Recognition School by the New York State Department of Education. KIPP Tech Valley Primary School (KTVP) opened its doors in 2016 to 100 kindergarten students, and is now fully scaled to 500 students grades K-4. Job Description

KTV Primary School is looking to hire a School Nurse to provide primary health and emergency care to students, promote wellness and serve as a resource for health concerns in the school setting.

General job responsibilities include:

To be performed in a manner consistent with professional standards, the New York State Nurse Practice Act, state regulations, and district policies:

  • Uses the nursing process to assess the health needs of students.
  •  Administers medications and treatments as ordered.
  •  Provides care for student illness and accidents.
  • Develops individual health care plans and modifications for students with special health care needs.
  • Serves as liaison between the home, medical community, and the school regarding student health concerns.
  • Manages mandated school screening programs and school/sports physicals and follow-up.
  • Monitors the school environment and recommends changes to promote health and safety.
  • Coordinates school health services by managing the health office and supervising paraprofessionals.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate cumulative health records including immunizations.
  • Serves as a resource person to home school, the school district, and the community regarding health issues.
  • Reviews and evaluates own job performance and maintains professional development.
  • Reviews and evaluates school health services.
  • Reports suspected physical and sexual abuse and neglect, follow communicable disease control procedures and informs administration and/or parents regarding school exclusion and readmission.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field.
  • Hold current New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Experience in pediatric and/or community or public health nursing.
  • Prior experience in school nursing.
  • Current certification in CPR.
  • Commitment to anti-racism and equity
