Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Director, Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment (SDCIA) is an academic leader on the shared services team, which works to support KIPP Jacksonville’s current schools. The SDCIA focuses in key areas such as people management, vision-setting and progress-monitoring, and curriculum implementation. The role will oversee critical academic areas across our growing organization with an emphasis on establishing or maintaining sustainable curricular systems in partnership with schools. 

The ideal candidate for this position will have a deep passion for social justice and educational equity for all children, deep K-12 curriculum and instructional knowledge, and clear leadership experience.

The SDCIA is a full-time role on the shared services team which oversees four schools currently and is actively planning for growth in future school years. As a member of the Shared Services Team, this individual would be responsible for doing whatever it takes to ensure that students develop the knowledge, skills, and character strengths they need to succeed throughout their education and in the competitive world beyond.

This position is year-round and performs duties as assigned by their manager.  This position reports directly to the Chief Schools Officer. Typical hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. but vary for this role based on the season. Some travel to events, trainings, or between schools during/after normal business hours would be required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Vision, Goal-Setting, & Progress-Monitoring

  • Set vision for academic team and set goals for region-wide academic achievement across all grade levels and content areas
  • Set-up systems and structures that allow the easy flow of academic progress-monitoring data to get to key stakeholders in a regular cadence
  • Establish assessment calendar and  benchmark monitoring for the region and partner with curriculum specialists to maintain pacing guides
  • Prepare reports periodically for the board on all curriculum, instruction, and assessment matters and all technology issues as directed by the CSO

People Management and Influence

  • Manage the regional academic team, including director and  manager-level positions like the Manager of Data and Assessment and school-based content leaders
  • Partner with and influence School Leaders and school-based teams to follow regionally set best practices in academics
  • Lead professional development in partnership with schools to ensure teachers use best practices and implement curriculum with fidelity and train others to do the same

Curriculum Implementation and Assessment

  • Evaluating and assessing current curriculum programs and implementation
  • Making recommendations, as needed, on curriculum changes
  • Ensure alignment between curriculum, standards, and classroom teaching across key content areas
  • Evaluate Instructional Technology usage to make recommendations for future acquisitions
  • Represent the organization in meetings and conferences related to curriculum and instruction, assessment, and technology

Systems Building and Codification

  • Demonstrate systems thinking and comfort codifying and archiving
  • Identify gaps in current systems and create new systems
  • Manage others to codify their roles and responsibilities

Compliance Monitoring

  • Responsible for monitoring the development and implementation of federal or state aid programs including but not limited to Title I, Title II, ESE and ESOL
  • Coordinate systems for an inventory of all curriculum materials and instructional software 
  • Participate in the interview and selection process of the instructional leadership staff as appropriate

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • Possesses a deep commitment to both racial and educational equity; supports the building of an organization that reflects the community KIPP serves; holds self and others on team accountable for centering equity. 
  • Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction or educational leadership
  • Five (5)+ years of  experience as a teacher in a K-12 classroom with a similar student population as KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools
  • Five (5)+ years of experience and demonstrated ability to coach classroom teachers or teacher coaches to high student achievement results
  • Three (3)+ years people leadership experience 
  • Systems thinker
  • Problem Solver
  • Passing a background check, as required by law

HIGHLY PREFERRED

  • Curriculum implementation experience
  • Experience with Florida’s standards either as a coach or a teacher
  • Experience in a K-8 or 6-12 environment​​​​
