KIPP Albany Community Public Charter Schools (KIPP Albany) is a network of high-performing public schools that has been committed to creating joyful, academically excellent schools in Albany since 2005.  KIPP Albany is affiliated with KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) Public Schools, a national network of over 10,000 educators serving 160,000 students and alumni. Job Description

Position Overview

The K-8 Mathematics Curriculum Associate will work closely with the Director to provide curricular development, implementation, coordination, and assessment of the K-12 academic program to improve student achievement and meet student, school, and regional goals. In particular, the K-8 Mathematics Curriculum Associate will be responsible for our regional balanced approach to common core rigorous Mathematics instruction to ensure that our schools provide the best programs for all students.

This position reports to the Director of Mathematics and is based out of our Regional School Support Team, and will play a critical role within KIPP New Name. This position requires frequent travel between our schools throughout the Capital District area. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and codify a rigorous, vertically aligned Mathematics curriculum. 
  • Write school-based Mathematics curriculum and assessments and give feedback to school-based team members on Mathematics unit and lesson plans. 
  • Implement curriculum by observing and modeling Mathematics lessons supporting effective intellectual preparation. 
  • Strong elementary and middle school Mathematics content and pedagogical knowledge with a record of achievement for all children, as well as excellent planning, codification, and organizational skills.
  • Develop and codifies the elementary and middle school Mathematics curriculum, including creation of a year-long scope and sequence, unit plans, assessments, lesson plans, and instructional materials
  • Oversees and provides feedback on curriculum development and revision work done by lead planners or other school-based team members 
  • Utilizes student performance data to assess the effectiveness of curricular design and implementation and makes necessary short- and long-term revisions and improvements 
  • Ensures that the design and implementation of the Mathematics curriculum leads to continuous improvement of student outcomes 
  • Facilitates strong implementation of the elementary and middle school Mathematics curriculum by: (1) Attending and sometimes leading unit previews and other intellectual preparation meetings in prioritized grades. (2) Modeling best teaching practices. (3) Observing and providing feedback on Mathematics instruction

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree in Education of Teaching particularly Math, preferred 

Preferred Knowledge/skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of elementary/middle school Mathematics teaching experience with a record of achievement for all children 
  • Extensive knowledge of instructional design, curriculum development, assessment design, and pedagogical best practices in elementary/middle school Mathematics
  • Experience with instructional leadership and/or teacher development, preferred 
  • A drive to succeed and achieve great results on behalf of all students, especially those furthest from opportunity 
  • Deeply committed to fostering equity and inclusion in our schools 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, cultural competency, and an ability to connect and build relationships with a diverse group of people 
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to project plan, prioritize, and balance multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to convey complex information to a variety of audiences.
