Job Description

Position Overview

The Special Education Paraprofessional position will be responsible for the supporting teaches in meeting the educational, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students with disabilities in the classroom and community.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides small group and/or individualized instruction to students with disabilities in accordance with the supervising teacher’s lesson plans.

  • Collects instructional and behavioral data for all objectives being taught for each student.

  • Implements Behavior Intervention Plans for students with disabilities.

  • Monitors students before and after school and during non-instructional transition periods.

  • Supervises students closely during breakfast and /or lunch and/or recess and/or getting off the bus.

  • Assists students as necessary with physical needs including feeding, toileting, lifting, and mobility.

  • Assists students with healthcare procedures including hygiene and medications as needed for daily care.

  • Assists students with assistive technology devices, including communication devices, switches and orthopedic devices needed for sitting, walking, or standing.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by classroom teacher or appropriate administrator.

  • Associates Degree, 2 years of college credit (minimum of approved 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours) OR passing score on the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment Test required

Organizational Overview: 

KIPP Metro Atlanta is part of the nation-wide KIPP non-profit network of 255 college-preparatory, public charter schools educating more than 100,000 early childhood, elementary, middle, and high school students. KIPP Metro Atlanta currently operates eleven KIPP schools including four primary schools, five middle schools, one K-6 school, and one high school, as well as the KIPP Through College Program which supports students on their journey “to and through” college.  

The regional support team provides financial and operational support and oversight to KIPP Metro Atlanta schools, develops instructional initiatives designed to strengthen the schools’ academic programs, and implements each school’s high school placement and alumni services through the KIPP Through College Program.
