KIPP Albany Community Public Charter Schools (KIPP Albany) is a network of high-performing public schools that has been committed to creating joyful, academically excellent schools in Albany since 2005.  KIPP Albany is affiliated with KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) Public Schools, a national network of over 10,000 educators serving 160,000 students and alumni. Job Description

Position Overview

The Director of Math is an essential position that drives Math achievement at KIPP Albany Public Schools. The Director of Math will meet regularly with the Teaching and Learning Support team (TLS). In addition, will also be expected to observe classrooms and provide feedback to KIPP Albany teachers and leaders on implementation of the regional Math curriculum.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Director of Mathematics include, but are not limited to:

Curriculum Selection, Design, and Management

 

  • Provide input on math curriculum selection for the region ○ Support regional math initiatives based on student and teacher data to deliver consistent excellent math instruction across KIPP Albany
  • Draw on content knowledge and understanding of effective math instructional practices to review curriculum documents
  • Continually evaluate curriculum implementation through the establishment of enabling systems that monitor progress and demonstrate quantitative and qualitative academic growth
  • Attend weekly TLS Meetings and feedback sessions
  • Oversee the administration of regional assessments that yield meaningful data on student math skill and content progression
  • Analyze regional data in collaboration with regional leaders and school-based leaders to create action plans that promote student achievement
  • Collaborate with other KIPP regions, like KIPP NYC, to manage a system for sharing assessment data results and analyses to the greater KIPP Albany teacher and leader community

School Support

  • Observe instructional practices to determine best practices, identify and address curriculum design and gaps, and determine professional development goals for math teachers and leaders
  • Using a data-driven pedagogy, collaborate with school-based leaders and teachers to devise meaningful action steps that improve student outcomes
  • Support school-based leaders in continually evaluating the effectiveness of the Math program overall

Professional Development for KIPP Albany

  • Provide targeted coaching and professional development experiences to principals, coaches and select teachers to support content knowledge development and curriculum implementation and innovation
  • Develop and facilitate regional professional development for teachers and leaders to ensure full implementation of curriculum and instructional initiatives across content areas

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Masters degree in education and/or Math education preferred
  •  Minimum 3 years exemplary teacher coaching and adult management experience preferably math
  • Minimum 3 years exemplary team leadership and management, including direction setting
  • Teaching experience in K-12 math preferably in NYS with a clear record of success
  • Deep knowledge of Math content and learning theory, current educational trends, blended learning practices, methods, research, and technology, and program planning and implementation
  • Experience planning and leading engaging and effective professional development for adults
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop productive working relationships with multiple stakeholders across the organization
  • Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to produce high quality work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to exercise discretion and judgment with the handling of highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Demonstrated passion for and a commitment to the KIPP mission for high quality public education and the character traits we value: Zest, grit, self-control, hope, love, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor
