In the 2021-22 school year, the KIPP Jacksonville region will be comprised of four schools educating 2,000 students, kindergarten through ninth grade, in the North and Westsides of Jacksonville, Florida:

  • KIPP Impact Academy: 5th – 8th grade
  • KIPP VOICE Academy: Kindergarten – 6th grade
  • KIPP Bessie Coleman Academy: Kindergarten – 7th grade
  • KIPP Bold City High School (new, coming 2021-22): 9th grade

For the 2021-22 school year, KIPP VOICE Academy will be located at 813 Golfair Blvd (32209). Our other three schools will operate at our main campus at 1440 McDuff Avenue N (32254).

Job Description

Title: Director of Facilities
Team: Shared Services Team
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Location: Regional Offices in Jacksonville, Florida
Position Type: Year-Round; Salaried

This position will be based in our regional offices in Jacksonville, FL.

POSITION OVERVIEW
KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools seeks an experienced facilities leader for the Director of Facilities position. The ideal candidate for this position will have a deep passion for social justice and educational equity for all children, plus facilities management or facilities planning leadership experience that oversees critical operational areas for the organization. Significant experience in either HVAC, Plumbing, electrical, or overall facilities planning is ideal. 

The Director of Facilities is responsible for overseeing the facilities that are a part of the KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools organization and managing others. The DoF manages the custodial team across all buildings and campuses, campus safety, the facilities tech team and other vendor relationships. The DoF will report to the COO to accomplish regional and school-based operational goals aligned to custodial, campus safety, building cleanliness, and other facilities metrics. The DoF also works closely with the regional Director of Operations and the COO to assist with moving into new buildings and opening new campuses that allow the organization to continue to grow.

The DoF is a full-time role on the Shared Services Team which oversees three campuses currently and is actively planning for growth in future school years. As a member of the Shared Services Team, this individual would be responsible for doing whatever it takes to ensure that students have an excellent experience, and the environment they need to succeed throughout their education and in the competitive world beyond.

This position is year-round and performs duties as assigned by their manager. Typical hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. but vary for this role based on the season. Some travel to events during/after normal business hours would be required.
 

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Managing Others

  • Lead the facilities team members to oversee all building maintenance, service, etc.
  • Lead campus safety for all three campus locations. 
  • Lead the building technicians on each campus 
  • Lead the KIPP Jacksonville custodial team by managing a robust team of sanitation team members responsible for school and office cleanliness
  • Manage in house ticketing system that assigns tasks and issues to specific roles for excellence in customer service responses
  • Meet regularly with each school-based Dean of School Operations to monitor progress to goals on critical deliverables
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with school-facing vendors
  • Together with COO, develop strategic vision for a growing facilities team that supports long-term growth

Design and Maintaining Systems

  • Design, update, and/or maintain internal facilities systems that allow the organization to continue to grow. These systems might include school space needs, construction projects, moving projects/timelines, custodial ticketing systems, and compliance with vendors.
  • Set-up region-wide compliance systems as it relates to mandated drills
  • Set-up region-wide systems for keys and building/campus access
  • Work to centralize best practices via playbooks and toolkits
  • Drive efforts for greater efficiency as we grow
  • Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional in facilities management or planning 
  • Experience managing others
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication, organizational, and project management skills (i.e. speaking to groups and designing a scope and sequence of written communications to a group)
  • Ability to set large goals and then work to set interim benchmarks to meet targets
  • High level of organization and keen attention to detail

HIGHLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in a educational setting or non-profit setting 
  • Experience with facilities management at or above 450,000 square feet 
  • Master's degree in Facilities Management

COMPENSATION

  • Pay is commensurate on experience and pay range for this position is $65,000-$75,000
