KIPP KC was founded in 2007 with our middle school serving grades 5-8.  In 2013 we opened our elementary school.  Today we serve 650 students in grades PreK-8, and  intend to open our High School in Fall 2021.

Lunch and Recess Monitor

Position Overview

Every member of the Team & Family at KIPP KC plays a critical role in ensuring our students are on the path toward college, career, and beyond. Our support staff are passionate advocates for our students, working tirelessly to create a school environment that helps students thrive. As a Lunch and Recess Monitor, you are deeply committed to educational equity, building relationships with students and families so they are safe, seen, heard, and loved.

As a KIPP KC Public Schools Lunch and Recess Monitor, your core responsibilities include:

Monitoring Recess

  • Ensure students are safe at all times when in recess areas.

  • Set expectations with students around safety and fairness on the playground and other shared spaces.

  • Teach students how to play games with each other and monitor the safety of those activities

  • Establish routines for playground safety, cleaning up, and transitioning to and from the playground areas.

  • Reset expectations as needed for individuals and groups of students in an equitable, kind manner

  • Meet professional obligations including timeliness and consistency in meeting deadlines

  • Exemplify the school cultural expectations

Monitoring Lunch

  • Ensure students are safe at all times and have what they need for lunch.

  • Maintain a cafeteria environment that is conducive to students visiting with each other and build relationships with each other.

  • Teach students the routines of the cafeteria in alignment with school vision.

  • Confer, as needed with administration around improvements to make for cafeteria routines.

  • Meet professional obligations including timeliness and consistency in meeting deadlines

  • Exemplify the school cultural expectations
