KIPP Albany launched on July 1, 2020, as the new partnership between KIPP Tech Valley Charter Schools and Albany Community Charter Schools. KIPP Albany is a unified group of schools striving towards excellence in education in the Capital Region, with 1600 students across four schools. KIPP Tech Valley Middle School (KTVM) was founded over 15 years ago in 2005. In 2018-2019, KTVM was named a Recognition School by the New York State Department of Education. KIPP Tech Valley Primary School (KTVP) opened its doors in 2016 to 100 kindergarten students and is now fully scaled to 500 students grades K-4. KIPP Albany Community Charter Elementary (KACCE) and Middle Schools (KACCM) will continue their commitment to providing students with a nurturing and supportive environment of high expectations, love, and respect. KIPP ACCE was founded in 2006, with KACCM following in 2012, and brings a relentless focus on academic achievement and character development to their K-8 students.

Job Description

The Behavior Interventionist will lead supports for students with special needs to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The Behavior Interventionist will provide critical guidance to Lead Teachers to ensure that all staff are complying with and meeting the needs of students with special needs.

Proactive Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Dean of Students to establish a positive, structured, and achievement-oriented school culture.

  • Work closely with the Director of Student Support Services to ensure students with IEPs, 504s, and behavior plans have the support necessary to be successful.

  • Assist in the implementation of positive school investment systems.

  • Work closely with the student support team to design behavior intervention plans.

  • Support teachers in building relationships with students and parents.

  • Model core values at all times.

Reactive Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the implementation of specific behavioral intervention plans.

  • Assist teachers, students, and parents in the creation and implementation of support plans for struggling students.

  • Reinforce the effective use of the school-wide behavior plan, including the school’s merit and demerit system.

  • Monitor behavioral pull-outs and resets during the school day.

  • Support the implementation and oversight of after-school detentions.

Qualifications

  • Great communication skills with diverse constituents; clear writer, capable facilitator, and public speaker.

  • Above average personal organization, skills to keep on top of deadlines, and measures of accountability.

  • Willingness to offer and respond positively to feedback; Commitment to daily personal and professional growth.

  • Experience teaching or leading children

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
