Job Description

This position is to address unfinished learning/learning loss due to COVID-19. The Academic Interventionist is responsible for working directly with students to provide tutoring, coaching, goal-setting, and academic case management to achieve measurable improvements in academic performance. Must have an authentic interest in the academic growth and development of students, as well as the ability to provide a safe and trustworthy learning environment.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: Academic Interventionist

  • Facilitate students’ improvement in Math and English Language Arts, and increase engagement as a result of their sustained participation in KIPP’s blended learning programs

  • Manage classroom behavior to create a productive learning environment

  • Provide academic intervention that is active and enables learning and recall of new knowledge strengthened through different exposures of “doing” (i.e., seeing, hearing, touching, and doing).

  • Provide academic intervention that is collaborative and is socially-centered, allowing young people to build skills through learning as a team

  • Create lesson plans based on student needs as required; and program partnerships with parents, teachers, and other supportive services

  • Provide academic intervention that is meaningful increases motivation by creating experiences relevant to students’ own interests, and the world in which they live

  • Provide academic intervention that supports mastery that provides young people the opportunity to gain and practice new skills and habits

  • Lead small-group tutoring, coaching, goal-setting, and academic case management designed to bridge the gaps in students’ understanding.

  • Foster the joy of mastery that culminates in an event or product to be viewed and celebrated by peers and family members.

  • Provide academic intervention that expands horizons and facilitates learning that goes beyond the walls of site facilities and uses the surrounding community as a classroom, bringing in individuals and businesses that young people may not otherwise come into contact.

Blended Learning Connections

  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents to obtain information to better serve students and maintain program quality; this includes, but is not limited to the distribution of progress reports, programmatic materials, etc.

  • Collect/enter student data on academic gains and other outcome targets. Consistent completion of all required documentation: forms, grade checks, assessments, attendance records, etc.

  • Organize own work daily, weekly, and monthly to ensure key deadlines are met and are completed on time and according to established policies and procedures.

  • Communicate student progress as needed to core-content teachers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required

  • Ability to take initiative

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient level of cultural competency
