Who we are: KIPP Minnesota is a network of high-performing public charter schools in North Minneapolis and part of a nationwide movement that began over 25 years ago. Next year, we will teach over 700 students in Kindergarten through 8th Grade at four schools in North Minneapolis. KIPP Minnesota is as a community of game-changing educators who are leading the way in providing a high-quality education to all students.

How we do it: We build partnerships between our families, staff, and community organizations. We work as a team, use data, and constantly reflect to improve our practice. We prioritize and invest in professional development for all of our staff, from on-going coaching, endless opportunities for collaboration, and weekly half-days for school-wide trainings to national conferences and retreats. We work hard to take care of ourselves with quarterly Wellness Wednesdays (a free afternoon off!) and a school calendar designed to maximize sustainability.

Why it matters: In our community, approximately 1 in 10 students earn a college degree. We believe that this is unjust and unacceptable and, most importantly, can be changed. Nationwide, over 85% of KIPP middle school alumni matriculate to college.

Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

 The Marketing and Communications Associate (MCA) shares the message of KIPP Minnesota with all stakeholders. The MCA is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing all of KIPP Minnesota’s marketing strategies, marketing communications, public relations, and special events. Elements of this position will be tied closely to all regional departments (e.g. integrating web content from other teams; managing events; and creating marketing materials). The MCA reports directly to the Director of External Affairs and Development.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and advance KIPP Minnesota’s mission to all stakeholders (internal and external) through a consistent, clear, and compelling messaging

  • Develop the annual Communications strategy in partnership with the Regional Leadership Team, which will guide strategic communications initiatives throughout the year

  • Develop a marketing strategy in partnership with the Regional Leadership Team that effectively amplifies the mission of KIPP, increases awareness of important education and social justice issues, and maximizes the organization’s fundraising efforts

  • Design and create printed and electronic collateral, for example flyers, online invitations, e-asks, e-cards, and e-newsletters

  • Manage website and online presence, including social media

  • Oversee KIPP brand adherence

  • Actively engage with campuses, staff, families, and our community through presence at schools and participation in special events to gather content for effective communication

  • Develop and maintain KIPP Minnesota’s relationship with local and national media

Qualifications

DESIRED EXPERIENCE 

Required 

  • Bachelor’s degree  In Business Administration or Marketing or Graphic Design or another related field

  • 1-2 Yrs of experience in marketing/communications or a related field (public relations, development). 

  • Dedicated to KIPP Minnesota’s mission and core values

  • Willing to continually examine personal biases and to be anti-racist 

  • Able to build strong, effective professional relationships

  • Flexible and able to multitask and problem-solve

  • Consistent with meeting deadlines

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented

  • Able to communicate effectively in verbal and written form

  • A team player with a positive and collaborative attitude

  • Willing to do whatever it takes and believes that no job is too big or too small

  • Is a self-starter with the ability to take initiative and thrive in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficient in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, Calendar, Drive, etc.) along with design tools (i.e. Photoshop, Canva, Illustrator, etc.)

Highly Preferred 

  • Experience working in historically educationally underserved communities and communities of color 

Additional Information

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary: $40,000-$45,000
