KIPP currently educates 80,000 students in 200 schools across the country, including Indianapolis.  KIPP Indy Public Schools (KIPP Indy) was founded in 2004 with one class of fifth grade students and has grown to educate over 600 students across two schools. We will continue to grow KIPP Indy into a full K-12 network; educating 1,500 students in the Martindale-Brightwood community of Indianapolis. KIPP Indy’s Regional Team is responsible for supporting our current schools while developing strong systems, structures, and partnerships enabling our organization to grow.

Job Description

At KIPP Indy Public Schools, we believe our students’ character and emotional growth is linked inextricably to their academic progress.  The Manager, Counseling and Social Services will serve as an essential team member of the Social Services department by partnering with social workers, students, and families across all three schools.  An ideal candidate will be knowledgeable of and respectful of the culture of the community served, support and advocate for students and families from a trauma-informed lens, and collaborate effectively with a variety of stakeholders in supporting students and families in accessing resources.

 

  • Serve as KIPP Indy’s McKinney Vento liaison
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for families who are displaced, referring individuals and families to external resources and services and supporting families in accessing these resources
    • Partner with the KIPP Indy operations team to coordinate transportation changes for students
    • Conduct home visits as appropriate
    • Attend all Department of Education trainings and stay informed of current best practices in supporting families
    • Maintain a master tracker of students for the region and communicate with social workers and school leadership teams as necessary
  • Provide direct services to the school community, including:
    • Partnering with school social workers to identify school-wide needs and execute tier 2 interventions through small group counseling
    • Providing crisis intervention as needed when social workers need additional support
    • Providing counseling minutes to students with Individualized Education Plans as needed
    • Managing, tracking, and documenting student interactions and counseling schedule
  • Serve as KIPP Indy’s point of contact for the Department of Child Services
    • Maintain a master tracker of students for the region and community with social workers and school leadership teams as necessary
    • Communicate with the Department of Child Services educational liaisons to complete necessary paperwork
    • Communicate regularly with family case managers to stay informed of student living situations
    • Complete individual check-ins with students who are involved in the foster care system and/or are recently removed from a parent’s home
  • Support region-wide student attendance and truancy efforts
    • Attend weekly attendance meetings and collaborate with school-based Director of Operations to contact families and provide resources that improve student attendance
    • File all truancy reports with the Department of Child Services as needed and as directed by Directors of School Operations
  • Additional Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Leading region-wide programs for families across all three schools, such as holiday assistance
    • Collaborating with IUPUI social work interns on projects and responsibilities
    • Consulting with school-based social workers to develop comprehensive supports and interventions for students who are presenting challenging behavior
    • Participating in team meetings, school-wide activities, professional development, and other events
    • Displaying the highest ethical and professional behavior and confidentiality when working with students, parents, and staff

Qualifications

  • Masters in Social Work or School Counseling (preferred)
  • Experience in working within a school environment or extensive work with children, teenagers, and young adults
  • Experience in therapeutic modalities related to children and families in traditionally underserved communities, including assessment and treatment of trauma
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic, extensive knowledge of child and adolescent development, and a documented track record of personal and professional success

COMPENSATION

Compensation will be commensurate with experience. This is a full-time role, eligible for participation in a highly competitive employee benefits package, including retirement, health, vision, dental, and life insurance options.
