Job Description

The Opportunity

KIPP Texas Public Schools Student Support Services (S3) exists to prevent, respond to, and minimize the barriers to learning that KIPP students may experience. Since health and wellness and educational goals are interdependent, this position furthers the mission of KIPP Texas as it helps ensure that all students have access to care that meets their diverse emotional and behavioral needs.  The KIPP Texas Director of School Health Services is a senior leader on the S3 Student Wellness Leadership team and will lead the implementation of the strategic direction for School Health Services, initiating new strategy as well as implementation of project timelines of the strategic plan. He/she will work cooperatively with regional and school leaders, school-based school health staff as well as the state team to ensure the delivery of high quality programs, services and improved results in student achievement. 

  • Strategy | Support school and regional teams to implement the Student Wellness Strategic Plan and provide comprehensive improvement of school performance using a collaborative approach to clear and specific performance targets aligned to the Student Wellness Strategic Plan
  • Implementation | Work cooperatively with school and regional teams to implement, and evaluate a comprehensive range of interventions and supports for students at risk for and exhibiting health concerns.
  • Supervision | Work to support school and regional teams by spending approximately 50% of his/her time in schools working directly with teams to improve school health programming and services.
  • Management | Ensures that the state and regional School Health teams provide excellent communication, customer service and well-coordinated support.

Duties and Responsibility

  • The Director of School Health’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
  • Plan, organize and lead collaborative departmental meetings supporting strategic initiatives.
  • Coordinate and maintain quality School Health programs and ensure interventions for students with health concerns are evident and supported. Provide operational leadership, management and direction to School Health Services.
  • Collaborate with external partners (e.g., Legacy Community Health) and internal constituents to implement systems to optimize utilization, functionality and knowledge.
  • Develop and lead disease prevention and response efforts for KIPP Texas.
  • Oversee the maintenance of protected student health information in accordance with state statutes/regulations.
  • Coordinate and provide high quality professional learning for school teams in the areas of School Health.
  • Coordinate and provide high quality professional learning for continuous growth of individual School Health providers, including but not limited to KIPP TX School Health staff.
  • Work collaboratively with Operations staff to build proactive systems for creating and maintaining safe and effective learning environments in our schools.
  • Supervise School Health staff and their performance, write evaluations and improvement plans ensuring full compliance with all requirements and deadlines.
  • Work with the Deputy Chief of S3 and the Managing Director of Student Wellness to plan professional development of all administrators, ensuring an understanding of support systems and intervention strategies that benefit all students.
  • Provides high quality annual reports and quarterly status reports that clearly communicate performance toward all annual targets and dynamic intervention strategies to ensure that annual goals and targets are met.
  • Routinely evaluates the KTX School Health program to ensure that objectives for student education are met.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Managing Director of Student Wellness and/or the Deputy Chief of S3.

Education/Experience

  • Master’s Degree in a related education field
  • Minimum of (3) years of leadership experience as an administrator with demonstrated results
  • Proven success in leading district-wide efforts to transform the provision of School Health services for students in urban setting preferred
