Job Description

The Opportunity

The Middle School Achievement Director works with a specific Managing Director of Middle Schools to help craft a plan for, and drive strategic school support across a horizontal community of schools. The Middle School Achievement Director will play a critical role in coaching and supporting school leaders with creating equitable, joyful, academically excellent learning environments that lead to improved student achievement outcomes by the closure of opportunity gaps.

 General Role Description

  • Equity Based Leadership | Be a model of equitable practices while teaching and insisting that School Leaders and school leader managers also be models of equitable practices in their decision making for both BIG and Little KIPPsters.
  • Coaching | Coach and support school leaders and school leader managers in leadership competencies aligned to their individual professional learning plans, and specifically in the areas of equity based leadership, instructional leadership, leading through others, and leveraging impact and influence to drive transformational change.
  • Data Analysis | Analyze data at the student-level through the regional levels in order to support School Leaders and school leader managers in crafting plans that are responsive to both strengths and areas of opportunities around school culture, leadership, and student outcomes.
  • Professional Learning | Craft and lead professional learning experiences that are rigorous, aligned, and collaborative in service of building community within, and across, horizontal communities of School Leaders and school leader managers.

Duties and Responsibility

Working with a Managing Director of Middle Schools, the Middle School Achievement Director will:

  • In collaboration with Academics teammates, craft and implement strategic academic improvement plans to support schools in meeting/exceeding  annual state, regional and school level goals and targets
  • Facilitate rigorous and engaging professional learning communities for both school leader managers and school leaders
  • Coach and support the development of both the technical and adaptive skills of school leaders and school leader managers
  • In collaboration with all Academics teammates, support school leader managers to develop and implement long range plans for transformational school improvement
  • Create and execute on systems to strategically gather input and feedback from school leaders and school leader managers to consistently ensure equity of voice in decision making processes
  • Model anti-racist and equaitable practices for school leader managers and school leaders while supporting both in becoming strong models for the teams they support and lead
  • Provide consistent, high quality, on the ground and remote support to all assigned schools in collaboration with the school manager and school leader
  • Support school teams in building  strong, cohesive team cultures that model KIPP Texas beliefs and values
  • Institute strong accountability and enabling systems to support schools in attaining strong student achievement outcomes for ALL students, including students in specialized cohorts
  • Support school leaders and school leader managers by staying well-informed of current curricular and educational thoughts, trends, and practices, as well as, proposed legislation impacting the schools
  • Support school leaders and school leader managers in ensuring both shareholders have clear succession plans and that successors are provided strategic opportunities for growth aligned to their individual development needs
  • Support school leader managers in managing annual and long-term school planning
  • Plan and execute on high quality, aligned professional learning for both School Leaders and school leader managers
  • Assist school leader managers in the creation and implementation of high quality, rigorous professional learning  opportunities for their portfolio of school leaders
  • Ensure that school leader managers and school leaders receive additional support in critical areas
  • Ensure that the schools are aligned with, and integrated into, all aspects of KIPP Texas
  • Ensure school leader managers and school leaders are aware of policy updates at both the regional and state level.

Qualifications

Education and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a focus in Education preferred
  • Proven success as a School Leader/principal as defined by an ability to drive results and build academically excellent schools  through others
  • Master’s Degree preferred

  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy required
  • Excellent organizational and strategic thinking skills required
  • Excellent leadership and management skills required; the ability to impact, influence, motivate, educate, coach, and inspire both internal and external audiences

  • Ability to clearly articulate and sell a vision, outline and detail a project plan, and follow up the articulations and outlines with thorough execution
  • Public speaking
  • Proven writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills
  • Strong typing skills are required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency using computers, printers, copy machines, and fax machines
