Job Description

KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools' Regional Support Team (RST) seeks an experienced Achievement Director of  Non-Fiction and Equity who will be responsible for designing, refining, and supporting our schools' instructional blueprint through the lens of equity and with a focus on culturally relevant Non-Fiction curriculum. 

The Achievement Director of Non-Fiction and Equity will be responsible for standardizing and aligning on the KIPP student experience to ensure all schools are equally joyful, identity affirming, and academically excellent in science and social studies. This individual will be at the helm of K-12 nonfiction data, supporting the collection, analysis, and response. They will serve as the lead learner, staying current on best practices and continuing to build their content expertise. Additionally, the Non-Fiction Achievement Director will provide direct coaching support and development to Principals, Assistant Principals, and Teachers.  

As Achievement Director of Non-Fiction and Equity, your core responsibilities include:

 
Non-Fiction Programming K-12

  • Supports schools in designing school-level programming for K-12 leaders and teachers.  
  • Researches the most current best practices in non-fiction to identify areas for programmatic improvement. 
  • Works with school-based staff to drive outcomes.
  • Provide on the ground content coaching to teachers and leaders K-12
  • Design, implement and manage all regional academic programming and assessments for K-12
  • Support designing school level academic programming for K-12 leaders and teachers in alignment with regional vision
  • Create systems to support academic programming, including assessment strategy and resources, as well as grading policies and resources  
  • Conduct classroom observations with school leadership teams to ensure effective instruction
  • Provide coaching support to Principals, Assistant Principals, and Teachers, targeting high leverage action steps to improve instruction and academic outcomes
  • Maintain contact with and develops relationships with other like-minded organizations and individuals in the Atlanta area and across the nation 
  • Collaborate with the KIPP Foundation and other KIPP regions to implement best practices and share resources

RST and Academic Support Team Infrastructure

  • Participate as an active member of the Secondary Leadership Team and Regional Academic Support Team
  • Collaborate with the Talent Team to align on equity initiatives and training region-wide
  • Partner with Talent Team to design and implement the equity strategic plan
  • Research and design equity coaching frameworks that align with culturally relevant teaching curriculum
  • Work with the Head of Schools – Academics, to develop, implement, and align programming and outcomes for K-12 students
  • Support progress monitoring and grade monitoring at our middle and high school
  • Collaborate with other Academic Support Team Achievement Directors to ensure comprehensive and cohesive academic programming for K-12 students
  • Work with the Academic Support Team to align grading policies and resources for schools.
  • In collaboration with the Data Team and school-based staff, ensure school-level data is timely and accurately entered and all systems are properly functioning
  • Collaborate with the Data Team on the assessment calendar and data driven instructional practices
  • All other duties as assigned
     

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of experience with at least 4 years of teaching experience and 3 managerial experience 
  • Immediate understanding of what effective teaching looks like and a deep commitment to effective and rigorous instruction 
  • Track record of successfully influencing and motivating partners to action
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple high-profile and complex projects simultaneously
  • Collaborative team player, comfortable leading as well as executing projects as required
  • Excellent leadership, management, and organizational skills required
  • Articulate, professional demeanor with strong self-confidence and initiative
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to exercise judgment in decision-making, think strategically, work collaboratively, and gather and analyze data, compile information, and prepare reports
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Flexible and able to multi-task within an ambiguous, fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions
