KIPP Metro Atlanta is part of the nation-wide KIPP non-profit network of 255 college-preparatory, public charter schools educating more than 100,000 early childhood, elementary, middle, and high school students. KIPP Metro Atlanta currently operates eleven KIPP schools including four primary schools, five middle schools, one K-6 school, and one high school, as well as the KIPP Through College Program which supports students on their journey “to and through” college.  

The regional support team provides financial and operational support and oversight to KIPP Metro Atlanta schools, develops instructional initiatives designed to strengthen the schools’ academic programs, and implements each school’s high school placement and alumni services through the KIPP Through College Program.

Job Description

KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools' KIPP Through College is seeking a Director of Career Services (DCS). The DCS will collaborate frequently with the  Managing Director of KIPP Through College to monitor and adjust career strategy and work with the Director of College Persistence and Director of College Counseling to ensure alumni have a smooth transition from high school and/or college into their career. They will build programming K-12 for scholars so that they have high-quality career exposure opportunities prior to graduation.

As a Director of Career Services, your core responsibilities include:

K-16 Career Integration

  • Design and implement processes, content, curriculum, and system to support career readiness, exploration, and Work Based Learning for all scholars K-12, College Counselors, and all KMAS staff.
  • Strategically collaborate with Director of College Counseling to revise and develop innovative systems to serve the career integrated postsecondary match process for HS students.
  • Strategically collaborate with the Director of College Persistence to devise and create new systems, programs, content and services to support career integrated postsecondary persistence for KIPP alumni.
  • Establish age appropriate programming to provide K-12 scholars with exposure to a variety of career opportunities and progressive career pathways, including: internships, career shadowing, and summer enrichment programs.
  • Manage budgets dedicated to career programming.

Partnership Management

  • Establish, negotiate and maintain strategic college (2 and 4 year), CTE, & workforce partnerships in collaboration with the Managing Director of KIPP Through College to ensure that KIPP Metro Atlanta alumni are enrolled in programs in which they will succeed
  • Establish innovative partners to support multiple pathways and career outcomes for our students and alumni
  • Build workforce training partnerships at 2-year colleges, CBOs, government and other public agencies, private corporations/businesses to maximize diverse career readiness opportunities for our students.

Staff Development

  • Design and facilitate training to KIPP Through College and regional staff on career readiness, the labor market, career counseling, and other topics supporting the strategic vision in preparing all students for their future career.

Student Focus

  • Manage a caseload of KMAS alumni pursuing career pathways
  • React urgently with quick problem-solving skills when student emergencies arise

Stakeholder Relations

  • Collaborate in the planning and execution of the college transition with the Persistence Team 
  • Attend and participate in all KTC team meetings and Regional Support Team meetings     
  • Build and nurture a high-performing career team that provides excellent outcomes for our students and alumni
  • Participate in weekly KTC Team Meetings and KIPP Network Professional Development opportunities
  • Plan and lead quarterly PD for KTC staff alongside the KTC Leadership Team
  • Develop and lead training for regional and organizational leaders and staff on topics related to career success and setting kids up for successful “life outcomes”

Data Management

  • With the support of the KTC Data and Operations Manager, establish new data tracking systems and make data-based decisions in strategic planning and advising students 
  • Ensure that KTC Career data is consistently monitored to ensure accuracy and timeliness and reported out in a clean and transparent manner
  • Collaborate with the KTC Data and Operations Manager to ensure goals are tracked 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 2-4 years of demonstrated success working with students and families on college access and/or career services
  • 2-3 years of direct management experience or experience leading high performing teams
  • 2-3 years of teaching experience (preferred)
  • Possess strong organizational skills
  • Strong project and time management capabilities
  • Ability to receive and act upon adjusting feedback
  • Commitment to professional development opportunities, including participation in organizations that support college access
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with Naviance and Salesforce strongly preferred
  • Committed to the mission of preparing educationally underserved children for college and beyond
