KIPP Metro Atlanta is part of the nation-wide KIPP non-profit network of 255 college-preparatory, public charter schools educating more than 100,000 early childhood, elementary, middle, and high school students. KIPP Metro Atlanta currently operates eleven KIPP schools including four primary schools, five middle schools, one K-6 school, and one high school, as well as the KIPP Through College Program which supports students on their journey “to and through” college.  

The regional support team provides financial and operational support and oversight to KIPP Metro Atlanta schools, develops instructional initiatives designed to strengthen the schools’ academic programs, and implements each school’s high school placement and alumni services through the KIPP Through College Program.

Job Description

KIPP Metro Atlanta's Regional Support Team is seeking a Data Systems Manager to support the implementation of the regional data and information systems strategy. The Data Systems Manager will work ensure student data and other prioritized data is collected, entered, and maintained in an efficient and accurate manner. This work is critical for ensuring that such information can be leveraged by instructional leaders, school staff, and the regional team to make student-focused decisions, and that the external reporting of this data is fully accurate. The Data Systems Manager will support the implementation of data systems, assist with access for students and staff, and support the integration of technology and data systems into the school learning environment. 

As a Data Systems Manager, your core responsibilities include:

Data System Strategy and Support

  • Support the set-up, maintenance, and use of a subset of regionally supported data and information systems (e.g., Google, academic/assessment systems such as Illuminate, Whetstone; behavior systems such as Kickboard; other prioritized and centralized systems as long-term data strategy evolves).
  • Contribute to the annual training and support plan for regional academic and operations data systems (e.g., Google, Illuminate, Whetstone, Clever), as well as supporting other systems as needed (e.g., assessments, blended learning, nutrition, student health, Google products).
  • Support the Data Systems Specialist with the delivery of training and consultation (e.g., office hours) for principals, teachers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure timely response and resolution to all helpdesk requests via Zendesk, serving as the primary Tier 1 support agent for Data Team managed systems and platforms.
  • Manage the creation and dissemination of student and teacher/staff credentials for prioritized data systems, via automation, single sign-on, or manual roster loads (where necessary) using Clever and other systems and approaches. 
  • Create and maintain strong working relationships with all users across programs and initiatives.
  • Remain up-to-date on applicable features, uses, data reports, etc. available in data and information platforms and, when possible, incorporate new features in the project plan to disseminate to relevant teams across the regional office and/or schools.
  • Identify and develop documentation of best practices around data systems use.
  • Encourage the use of various systems and tools (e.g., online testing, creating efficient work flows with data, creating automated solutions for manual processes, etc.) with teachers and school teams by seeking collaboration opportunities to problem-solve issues and support end users.
  • Support the integration of technology and data systems into the school learning environment.
  • Continually assess effectiveness and efficiency of existing data systems and, when necessary, recommend enhancements or new systems.
  • Support with the implementation of regionally surveys, including internal surveys and tracking completion of required, external surveys (e.g., state, Foundation, etc.)


Assessment Project Management

  • Implement annual plan for supporting assessment administration from a technical and system support perspective to ensure accurate and timely assessment data is created at the school level for school, regional, and network analysis; this includes both internal and external assessments (e.g., MAP, STEP, regional interims, GA Milestones, ACT interims, AP for All exams, etc.)
  • Conduct training for school-based staff on test administration requirements and best practices, conduct walkthroughs to assess implementation fidelity, and where necessary, create protocols to ensure appropriate common test administration practices are followed.
  • Collaborate with members of the regional team (Math/ELA leaders, IT, operations) to ensure assessment availability and administration fidelity in schools.
  • Liaison with the KIPP Foundation to gather common network assessments and help to align regional assessment strategy with the broader network strategy.
  • Support testing coordinators at school sites on assessment procedures and logistical/technical uses of the data and assessment systems.
  • Track completion of all assessments and provide reports of completion rates to relevant members of the regional Academic Support Team.
  • Identify and develop documentation of best practices around assessment platform(s) use

Data Management, Quality, and Use

  • Along with Data Systems Specialist, responsible for accurate and reliable data creation/entry in regional academic and student information data source systems
  • Conduct data quality audits to ensure collection of accurate and complete data in regional data systems; support school-level operations staff in doing the same
  • Create operational reports that provide visibility into data availability and accuracy for relevant stakeholders; this might include supporting assessment logistics (i.e., completion rates) or supporting teams to surface data quality issues in source systems, etc.
  • Continually assess effectiveness and efficiency of data management across systems, and when necessary, recommend new strategies to improve these procedures
  • Assist in documenting the practices, processes, and systems developed for data entry in the SIS and other systems in order to ensure consistent and accurate practices going forward
     

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in the education or non-profit fields
  • Strong project and product management skills
  • Knowledge of the education field, including familiarity with current student data systems (e.g., student information systems, assessment systems, behavior systems, etc.)
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and advocating on behalf of project goals with external stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills and ability to build meaningful relationships quickly
  • Ability to convey information in a way that is strategic, honest, timely, and respectful
  • Strategic thinker; ability to think critically about issues and solutions
  • Team-player capable of working both collaboratively and independently 
  • Flexible and strong ability to multi-task and prioritize
