Job Description

The School Social Worker will report to the Director of Support Services at KIPP Kansas City. The Mental Health and Healing Clinician will be part of a multi-disciplinary student intervention services team and will work with other intra-district teams to collaborate with school teams and community partners to provide mental health and healing services to students and families. The Mental Health and Healing Clinician will support in strengthening system-wide strategies for Trauma Sensitive School implementations. The Mental Health and Healing Clinician will need to possess a variety of approaches to provide comprehensive and inclusive treatments. The Mental Health and Healing Clinician will be addressing a variety of issues including, but not limited to; attention deficit disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, low motivation, oppositional defiant disorder, social skill gaps, and many other areas that can affect a students overall well-being and success.

Success Measured By:

➔ Assessment: 100% of students referred have an assessment on file to determine students treatment plan. ◆ Measurement tool: Review of treatment plan files.

➔ Treatment: 80% of students meet their individualized goals each semester. ◆ Measurement tool: Weekly progress monitoring of student progress review.

➔ Case Management: 90% of caseload reviewed will have documentation of interventions and referral connections that are tailored to the need identified.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide initial evaluation and assessment of student functioning at school.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans, defining plan of services, interventions, and progress monitoring.
  • Provide individual, group, family counseling, and counseling to students for the purpose of intervention and implementation of inclusive quality mental health care.
  • Appropriately document all services provided.
  • Promote positive school culture and improve student socio-emotional wellness by providing support and coaching to students, teachers, families, leaders, and other staff as appropriate.
  • Provide IEP minutes and ensure compliance with the Special Education Director.
  • Provide short term trauma informed and solution focused clinical interventions, crisis response support, mediations, assessments and screeners, brokerage case management services, and other social emotional support to students and families.
  • Provide referrals to community partners and agencies, including community non-profits, tutoring programs, emergency assistance, Medicaid, financial supports, housing assistance, and other community sponsored human services agencies.
  • Support implementation of student success plans that outline specific goals promoting student wellness, positive development, school connectedness, and overall success.
  • Provide student interventions such as; Groups, Individual Sessions, Triage/Crisis ● Establish healthy partnerships with parent(s) that focus on: increasing the parents' understanding of their student's challenges; encouraging parents' collaboration in resolving their student's challenges; and building parents' awareness and capacity to successfully engage and use appropriate resources available. May include home visits.
  • Organize and maintain accurate, complete, and confidential case management records (paper and electronic), including: student progress notes, contact logs, referrals, follow-up documents, reports, assessments, etc.
  • Support with implementation of school counseling curriculum as needed.
  • Support in our Resiliency Room with identified students.
  • Engage in direct services with students in the home, school, or community setting based on the treatment plan.
  • Participate and collaborate in the team approach in facilitating mental health services to students.
  • Consistent progress monitoring with established teacher, school and region objectives, goals and policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records relating to students’ treatment.
  • Provide prevention and intervention services for students, such as conflict resolution and crisis intervention, individually in the classroom setting.
  • Assess student and family needs for the purpose of developing and implementing individualized plans of services to support educational objectives.
  • Coordinate activities with a variety of outside services agencies, school sites, etc. (e.g. mental health, probation, medical, etc.) for the purpose of providing referrals for families and/or students. Other Job Functions:
  • Attend all meetings and training sessions as directed
  • Assist administration in coordinating counseling in crisis situations
  • Participate in informational evening sessions for parents
  • Attend IEP and 504 meetings as appropriate
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress, and appropriate professional manner for the work setting
  • Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills
  • Adheres to good safety practices
  • Ability to understand and adhere to all district rules, regulations, and policies

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:  

Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or closely related degree Masters Degree from accredited university or college in the field of clinical services, school psychologist or psychology, social work, counseling education or human services field Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker (LSCSW)

➢ Two (2) years of direct working experience with youth in a culturally and ethnically diverse urban setting

➢ Two (2) years of experience with case management

➢ Two (2) years of experience in individual and small group clinical intervention

➢ Demonstrate knowledge of the theory and practice of mental health assessment and treatment Previous experience working with school systems and local, state or federal agencies

➢ Knowledge and experience of providing trauma-sensitive service and an understanding of how trauma impacts the students and other systems

➢ Demonstrated experience preparing detailed written and oral reports

➢ Strong organizational skills

Preferred Requirements

  • Knowledge of Missouri DESE School Counseling Curriculum
  • Classroom experience teaching school counseling competencies
  • Registered Play Therapist
  • Experience with Art Therapy
