ORGANIZATION                                                                                                                      

KIPP is a non-profit network of college-preparatory, public charter schools with a 20+ year track record of providing an excellent college-prep education that sets students up for success in whatever life path they choose. KIPP currently educates more than 100,000 students in 255 schools across the country, including Indianapolis. KIPP Indy Public Schools (KIPP Indy) was founded in 2004 with one class of fifth-grade students and has grown to educate more than 1,250 students across three schools. KIPP Indy Legacy High was founded in 2019 with 125 ninth-grade students and will continue to grow a grade level each year to educate students in grades 9-12 by 2023. Of the students that attend KIPP Indy, 93% qualify for free and reduced lunch, 93% are African American, and 20% receive special education services. We will continue to grow KIPP Indy’s network of schools to educate a total of 1,400 students in grades K-12.

Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW
At KIPP Indy, we believe our students’ character and emotional growth are inextricably linked to their academic progress. Our Managers of Student Support will provide a full range of services to link the home and the school.  As a member of our team and family, they will partner with teachers and leaders to create and implement plans that provide differentiated support for selected students during the course of their normal school schedule and, at times, in the students’ homes.  Managers of Student Support are an integral part of the KIPP team working to ensure our students succeed inside and outside of school so that they can go on to lead self-sufficient, successful, and happy lives.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Foster a school community that supports the school’s mission and promotes respect and appreciation for all students, staff, and families
  • Providing regular one-on-one counseling or group counseling to students and families;
  • Providing crisis intervention as needed;
  • Managing, tracking, and documenting student interactions and counseling schedule;
  • Setting goals with students and tracking progress towards those goals;
  • Collaborating and communicating daily with teachers and staff to meet students’ needs;
  • Ensuring a safe, positive environment in group and one-on-one counseling sessions
  •  Execute the school-wide positive incentive systems
  • Support implementation of individualized development programs for struggling students as necessary, aligned with the discipline vision, to ensure student success in meeting school expectations
  • Collaborate with Response to Intervention (RtI) team on behavioral data tracking to provide tiered support for identified students
  • Execute additional duties as needed as a member of the school team (arrival and dismissal support, lunch support, covering classes, etc.)

 

EXPECTATIONS

  • Arrive at school by 7:50 a.m.
  • Participate in school-wide and individual professional development, including two weeks during the summer, weekly school-wide meetings, and ongoing racial equity trainings.
  • Provide time in the evening, by phone, for questions and concerns that students and/or families may have regarding education-related issues that could not be handled during the school day
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings and communicate openly with all staff
  • Meet all expectations and requirements as stated in the KIPP Indy Employee Handbook
  • Willing to meet the varied and constant needs of the students and staff at KIPP Indy

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of two to five years teaching in an urban public school (preferred)
  • Experience teaching in a public high school setting (preferred)
  • Strong record of helping students from underserved neighborhoods achieve academic success
  • Experience in analyzing student data and using data to inform instruction
  • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to the KIPP Indy mission and community
  • Possess a strong knowledge of content area and have met all required educator standards for their content area
  • Pass a criminal background check, as required by law

COMPENSATION
Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience, and includes benefits. Teachers are also eligible for performance-based bonuses.
