Job Description

KIPP Chicago is expanding our Talent Team and adding a second Talent Recruiter for SY 2122 and beyond; the position will begin summer 2021.  The Talent Recruiter plays a central role in the fulfillment of KIPP Chicago’s mission by directly impacting teacher quality.  The Talent Recruiter practices full-cycle recruitment: building a pipeline of teacher talent through strategic networking and communication, driving candidates to apply, then thoughtfully selecting which candidates move through the selection process.  The Talent Recruiter performs these functions as a support and consultant to our campus School Leaders, who are the final hiring managers for their respective campuses.  The Talent Recruiter’s work is a cornerstone of KIPP Chicago’s strategy for accomplishing its goals for diversity, equity, and inclusion.  The Talent Recruiter reports directly to the Head of Talent and is a crucial member of our regional Talent Team.  As a member of the Talent Team, the Talent Recruiter contributes to strategy relevant to diversity/equity/inclusion, student academic growth, and school leader and teacher satisfaction, development, and retention. 

The Talent Recruiter is charged with meeting quantified goals measuring number of new contacts established, number of phone communications with potential candidates, number of applications generated, efficiency of selection/hiring process, and percentage of vacancies filled by certain dates.  A comprehensive list of Key Performance Indicators will be shared with candidates in final interviews.

 The responsibilities of the Talent Recruiter will be focused on a specific pipeline of candidates, with specific emphasis on increasing our pipeline of middle grades content teachers (4th - 8th), English Learning (EL) teachers, Diverse Learning (DL) Teachers, and Bilingual (Spanish) teachers for both EL and general education positions.    All of these responsibilities are fulfilled within the context of collaboration with our seven campus School Leaders.  The continuous cultivation of strong working relationships with the School Leaders is tantamount to fulfilling each of the following responsibilities:

 Networking, Communication, and Candidate Cultivation – 40%

  • Develop strategic partnerships with organizations and universities to increase and maintain pipelines of teacher talent.

  • Lead outreach efforts at local and other identified universities by 1. designing an outreach strategy to include live events, relationships with faculty and campus-based organizations, and career fairs and 2. managing three campus-based interns to increase awareness at high-priority universities.

  • Attend key recruitment events such as university job fairs, conferences, networking events, and panel discussions, sometimes requiring travel.

  • Develop and execute events to host partner organizations and prospective candidates, including school visits, open houses, professional development, and off-campus events.

  • Develop and execute live and virtual recruitment events to attract potential teachers.

  • Support the production of clear and compelling communications and marketing materials.

  • Support the creation and sourcing of content for Talent Team newsletters and social media posts.

  • Source teacher candidates using job boards, social media, and LinkedIn

  • Utilize cultivation records in SmartRecruiters to execute bi-weekly outreach communication cycles with an initial email and scheduled follow-up emails driving toward a phone conversation.

  • Collaborate with Talent Team and school leaders to ensure candidate cultivation is driving toward diversity/equity/inclusion hiring goals.

Selection/Hiring – 40%

  • Manage job applications in SmartRecruiters for all caseload of positions-- Middle School Teacher, EL Teacher, DL Teacher, and Bilingual (Spanish) teachers in all pools.  

  • Serve as a single point of contact and communication for all instructional candidates at every stage of the selection process.  Ensure all communications with candidates are answered expediently.

  • Meet monthly with School Leaders August - October, then weekly October - June to review progress toward recruitment and hiring goals.

  • Perform the initial screening stages of the selection process for all instructional roles – resume, classroom recording, and phone interview.

  • Schedule and manage in-person interview days for all Instructional candidates.

  • Ensure all instructional roles are filled by June 15th for the following school year.

Strategy – 10%

  • Collaborate with Talent Team to develop strategy in alignment with KIPP Chicago values, mission, and goals, particularly with regards to diversity/equity/inclusion, student academic achievement, and teacher satisfaction, development, and retention.

Data Tracking and Analysis – 10%

  • Maintain accurate cultivation records in SmartRecruiters. 

  • Maintain comprehensive and updated job applications in SmartRecruiters.

  • Execute reports and dashboards in SmartRecruiters to evaluate progress toward Key Performance Indicators.

  • Analyze and report trends in recruitment and hiring data.

Qualifications

The Talent Recruiter is an associate-level Talent Team position.  Prior experience in recruitment or talent work is valued, but not required.  The requirements for the Talent Recruiter position are:

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)

  • Substantial prior experience working in low-income, urban communities of color (required)

  • Prior experience teaching in low-income, urban communities of color (preferred)

  • Interest and skill in connecting with people from all walks of life and building relationships

  • Strong personal mission aligned with KIPP Chicago’s mission

  • Strong written and oral language skills

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Strong project management skills and facility with Google suite 

  • Goal-orientation and and ability to prioritize  time effectively

INTERVIEW PROCESS 

In accordance with current public health guidelines, the interview process during Spring 2021 for all KIPP Chicago position will be conducted remotely and will include a phone interview, submission of a performance task, and panel interview via Zoom with our team.
