Job Description
The High School Transition Advisor for our KIPP Ascend campus will serve our middle school in the North Lawndale neighborhood on Chicago's west side. This is a mid-level position for an experienced professional. The High School Transition Advisor is an integral part of the KIPP Through College team; working with our families as the first point of contact on the journey “to & through” college. Therefore, the High School Transition Advisor will be an individual who embraces meaningful relationships, structures, improvement and goes above and beyond to ensure our middle school students are supported through the high school transition process. The High School Transition Advisor will report to the Director of High School Transition and will join a growing KIPP Through College (KTC) team of High School Transition and College Advisors.
The role of the KIPP Ascend Middle School High School Transition Advisor includes, but is not limited to the following responsibilities:
High School Exposure & Choice
Conduct 1:1 high school placement meetings with each 8th grade student and parent/guardian regarding high school options and scholarship opportunities
Review and submit all high school and scholarship applications for each 8th grade class
Use student achievement data to develop a high school application plan that maximizes options for each student
Oversee matriculation to high schools for all 8th grade students
Track and maintain accurate student application data in regional database
College Going Culture
Assist students and families in applying to enrichment and summer programs
Plan and deliver high school placement presentations to staff, students and families
Teach KTC curriculum to 6th, 7th and 8th grade KIPP students
Collaborate with school staff to foster a college-going culture within the school community
Self & Others
Maintain regular and effective communication with School Leaders, school staff, and regional KTC High School team to collectively support students and families
Collaborate effectively with High School Transition Advisors at other KIPP Chicago schools and the larger KIPP Through College team
Build and maintain positive relationships with high school administrators, counselors, admissions staff, and community organizations on behalf of KIPP Through College
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree or higher (required)
Minimum of two years experience teaching, advising, or working with families in a middle school, high school or college access setting (required)
Knowledge of Chicago-area high schools (required)
Personal initiative and follow through (required)
Demonstrated passion for and commitment to the KIPP mission (required)
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities (required)
Excellent oral and written communication skills and evidence of strong follow-through, initiative taking, and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Drive Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and Salesforce
Flexibility to work some nights and weekends to connect with KIPP alumni/families

INTERVIEW PROCESS
In accordance with current public health guidelines, the interview process during Spring 2021 for all KIPP Chicago position will be conducted remotely and will include a phone interview, submission of a performance task, and panel interview via Zoom with our team.
