Job Description

KIPP Texas Public Schools Student Support Services (S3) exists to prevent, respond to, and minimize the barriers to learning that KIPP students may experience. Since health and wellness and educational goals are interdependent, this position furthers the mission of KIPP Texas as it helps ensure that all students have access to care that meets their diverse emotional, behavioral, and physical healthcare needs. The Managing Director will provide strategic leadership, long-term vision, and direction as the administrator responsible for all aspects of a multidisciplinary approach to student wellness. This position reports directly to the Deputy Chief of S3 and will collaborate closely with colleagues within S3, Academics, and School Management as well as with other regional and school shareholders to ensure the delivery of high-quality student wellness services in alignment with KIPP Texas goals, purposes, and priorities. The Managing Director, in consultation with the Deputy Chief of S3 and other key shareholders, will champion equity through the provision of comprehensive, collaborative, and integrated support to KIPPsters and their families. 

  • Strategy | Create and drive Student Wellness strategic initiatives in collaboration with the Deputy Chief of S3, the S3 Leadership Team, and multiple shareholder groups. 
  • Implementation | Work cooperatively with state, regional, and school teams to design, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive range of interventions and supports for students at risk for academic, social-emotional, mental and behavioral health, and physical concerns.
  • Supervision | Work to support school and regional teams by spending approximately 20% of his/her time in schools working directly with teams to improve wellness programming and services.
  • Management | Assures effective service delivery with maximum benefit to KIPPsters through integrative support of all Student Wellness major areas: School-Based Mental Health, School Health, Social Emotional Learning, and Homeless Education. Ensures appropriate staff evaluation procedures, employee development, and team development. 

Key Responsibilities

The Managing Director of Student Wellness’ responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Plan, organize and lead collaborative departmental and cross-departmental meetings supporting strategic initiatives.
  • Coordinate and maintain quality Student Wellness programs and ensure research-based interventions for students with mental, behavioral, and physical impairments are evident and supported. Provide operational leadership, management and direction to Student Wellness Services.
  • Seek out and collaborate with external partners (e.g., Legacy Community Health) and internal constituents to implement systems to optimize utilization, functionality and knowledge.
  • Monitor crisis prevention and response efforts at the school and regional levels, charting the path for continuous improvement in these efforts.  
  • Set vision and expectation for high quality professional learning for Student Wellness regional and school teams 
  • Supervise Regional Student Wellness staff and their performance, write evaluations and improvement plans ensuring full compliance with all requirements and deadlines.
  • Provides high quality annual reports and quarterly status reports that clearly communicate performance toward all annual targets and dynamic intervention strategies to ensure that annual goals and targets are met.
  • Routinely evaluates the KIPP Texas Student Wellness program to ensure that objectives for student education are met.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief of S3.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated mastery in setting annual goals, benchmarking, and monitoring of strategic plans for organizational improvement. 
  • Ability to problem solve, analyze and achieve results for all learners.
  • Knowledge of state education law around student wellness.
  • Innovation oriented, team oriented, and data driven leader with high levels of energy and deep commitment to urban youth.

Education/Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Health Administration, Public or Community Health, Business or Public Administration, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Education or a related field.
  • Minimum of (3-5) years of relevant leadership and professional experience as an administrator with demonstrated results in the management and supervision of health, mental health, or health promotion services, or a closely related area of health care practice and administration. 
  • Proven success in leading district-wide efforts to transform the provision of wellness services for students in an urban setting preferred.
  • Proven record of success and commitment to working with issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Experience in budget and personnel management, preferably in an educational environment.
  • Demonstrated excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills, including the ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience leading organizational change preferred.
