Founded in 2008 with 50 students in 5th grade, KIPP Columbus currently serves nearly 2,000 students in grades Kindergarten through twelfth. During the 2018-2019 school year, and for the third year in a row, KIPP Columbus had the highest amount of academic growth of any community school in Ohio.

Job Description

Teachers at KIPP Columbus create authentic and meaningful learning experiences for students through the use of academically rigorous content and a joyful classroom culture.

In this role, teachers work to educate the whole child, developing deep relationships with each student and working with them to meet challenging academic goals.

Responsibilities of KIPP Columbus Lead Teachers include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Craft, internalize, and implement high quality lesson plans using provided curriculum resources to meet the diverse needs of all learners
  • Set and work towards achieving measurable, challenging, and realistic student goals
  • Use small group instruction and technology to tailor learning plans for each individual student
  • Regularly assess student work and use student achievement data to improve student academic performance
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers and school leaders around curriculum and school culture
  • Build authentic relationships with families to partner in ensuring the academic success of each student
  • Use effective strategies to create a positive and joyful classroom climate 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 1 year of lead teaching (non student teaching/teaching assistant) experience
  • Current Ohio Teaching License or willingness and ability to pursue certification by start date
  • Deep belief in the mission of KIPP Columbus and a strong desire to work towards equity within education
  • Growth mindset and a desire to learn and grow through consistent coaching and feedback
  • Belief that all students are capable of success and deserve to be pushed to a rigorous academic and behavioral bar
  • Willingness to do whatever it takes and go above and beyond to serve all students
