Job Description

The English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Teacher will teach identified ELL students using a state-approved, comprehensive curriculum and increase scholar’s access to the Common Core State Standards in their core content classes.  Additionally, the ESOL teacher will lead supports for students who are developing in their English to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.  The ESOL Teacher will provide critical guidance to Lead Teachers to ensure that all staff comply with and are meeting the needs of English Language Learners.

 

Job Responsibilities:

As a KIPP Metro Atlanta Teacher, your core responsibilities include:

ESOL Compliance and Leadership 

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district ELL regulations

  • Follow LEA processes for entering and exiting students into services

  • Administer relevant ESOL assessments (ACCESS, WIDA Screeners, etc.)

  • Support teacher development in serving ELL students through individual coaching and group professional development

  • Attend all LEA ESOL/ELL meetings

Curriculum Development and Instruction

  • Adapt and execute a rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum

  • Develop academically rigorous lessons, unit plans, rubrics, and assessments

  • Use data to inform instructional decisions

  • Provide students with daily feedback on performance and plan for individual learning needs

  • Differentiate instruction to ensure that all students are progressing

  • In conjunction with Special Education Teachers, work to ensure that all IEPs and student needs are met both within and outside of the classroom

  •  

 Help Build a Positive School and Classroom Culture

  • Embody and maintain school’s values, policies, and culture

  • Develop positive relationships with students, families, teachers, staff, and community members

  • Establish and maintain strong communication with all families and share progress

  • Show up for critical school events, including staff meetings, open houses, parent-teacher conferences, and more

  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students

  • Have fun and spread joy!

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • ESOL Endorsement required

  • A minimum of two years of teaching experience in an under-resourced community 

  • A passion for being a part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture

  • Pass Criminal Background Check

  • Demonstrated commitment to closing the opportunity gap

The regional support team provides financial and operational support and oversight to KIPP Metro Atlanta schools, develops instructional initiatives designed to strengthen the schools’ academic programs, and implements each school’s high school placement and alumni services through the KIPP Through College Program.
