In 2018, KIPP schools in Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio joined forces to become KIPP Texas Public Schools, a nonprofit public charter school network, accelerating student academic outcomes and impacting more students across Texas. In the 2020-2021 school year, KIPP Texas Public Schools will educate more than 31,100 students in 59 schools, placing the district among the top 50 largest in the state. KIPP Texas will continue to prove what is possible for its students, communities, and state, with a goal of growing to educate 100,000 students and achieving a 75% college graduation rate for alumni.

KIPP Texas is part of the national KIPP network of 255 college-preparatory public charter schools educating early childhood, elementary, middle, and high school students. KIPP schools are part of the free public school system and enrollment is open to all students. Nationwide, KIPP students complete four-year college at a rate of 36 percent, comparable to the national average for all students and approximately three times higher than the average of students from low-income families.

Job Description

Serving 31,000 students in 59 schools across the state, KIPP Texas’ vision is to reach three times as many students in educationally underserved communities in this decade. Critical to achieving this vision is the role of the Chief Marketing/Engagement Officer (CMEO), who serves as the brand steward of the organization across regions and lives the core values in everything they do. As Chief storyteller, the CMEO ensures the organization creates an emotional and inspirational connection with its stakeholder audiences through joy and life-changing student, family and teacher impact stories. The CMEO oversees the creation, execution, and measurement of the KIPP Texas marketing strategy, provides functional oversight to the KIPP Texas Advocacy and Community Engagement Team, and sets the direction for and ensures execution of the organization’s student recruitment, student retention, and family engagement activities. The CMEO recruits, motivates and manages high-performing teams of both in-house and external talent.

Five Core Responsibilities

Influence and set strategy, culture, and organizational direction of KIPP Texas as a member of the executive team (T2)

  1. Own and steward the brand story and marketing strategy across all channels
  2. Recruit and lead the marketing team and its partners
  3. Achieve student recruitment and retention goals across regions
  4. Advocacy and Community Engagement
  5. Oversee, and serve as the filter, for all stakeholder communications

Additional Responsibilities

  • Manage brand development and execution across all experiences, channels and assets
  • Steward the KIPP Texas voice, culture and values to create a consistent, meaningful and differentiated position in a highly competitive K-12 educational market
  • Oversee all aspects of marketing execution including advertising, public/government relations, advocacy and issues management, website/SEO, content, and social media
  • Lead demand generation and campaign development to achieve student recruitment, retention and engagement objectives
  • Establish stakeholder communications processes to ensure all audiences are effectively informed with accurate, timely and impactful information
  • Serve as a responsive marketing collaborator, advisor and service provider to internal customers for needed assets such as messaging, content, collateral, and digital requirements
  • Analyze education landscape in target markets and pivot strategies to grow market share
  • Establish a spirit of transparency, accountability and ROI through dashboard as well as channel- and campaign-level reporting
  • Lead, motivate, and inspire team
  • Serve as a member of the KIPP Texas state-wide Sr. Leadership Team (Team Texas)

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of senior marketing leadership experience
  • 5+ years marketing leadership in education related organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading branding campaigns that drive behavior change
  • Proven leadership ability to own student recruitment and retention across Texas
  • Passion for the KIPP Texas mission and shared commitment to the organization’s core values
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, from developing impactful messaging to accuracy in writing
  • Natural collaborator with customer service mentality
  • Advanced degree in marketing or related field
