In the 2021-22 school year, the KIPP Jacksonville region will be comprised of four schools educating 2,000 students, kindergarten through ninth grade, in the North and Westsides of Jacksonville, Florida:

·        KIPP Impact Academy: 5th – 8th grade

·        KIPP VOICE Academy: Kindergarten – 6th grade

·        KIPP Bessie Coleman Academy: Kindergarten – 7th grade

·        KIPP Bold City High School (new, coming 2021-22): 9th grade

For the 2021-22 school year, KIPP VOICE Academy will be located at 813 Golfair Blvd (32209). Our other three schools will operate at our main campus at 1440 McDuff Avenue N (32254).

Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW 

KIPP Public Schools Jacksonville seeks inspiring, certified specials teachers for grades K-7. This educator should have a clear vision for their subject that includes students engaging in culturally appropriate and fun learning. This full-time position works closely with the existing specials departments. These departments vary by school. As a specials teacher, they would likely see students across all grade levels and be responsible for creating a positive classroom environment, implementing curriculum, assessing students, collaborating with their team, building relationships with families, and other duties as assigned. Full teacher responsibilities are ultimately outlined by their school leader.

For the 2020-21 school year, teachers at KIPP Public Schools Jacksonville work from 7:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday and may have occasional meetings or special school events outside of these hours. Student hours are typically 7:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. Hours for teachers and students vary slightly by school. Every Wednesday is a student early release day (1:30 p.m.), which allows teachers to participate in weekly professional development.

OUR CURRENT MODEL

The specials schedule is subject to change and can vary from school to school.

The specials team consists of five teachers for the entire school. Each specials teacher instructs students across all grade levels. Depending on the specials area subject, the teacher may travel to classrooms or have students transition to their own classroom space. Class size is typically ~26 students. Specials teachers typically see each class of students once a week since they see students across grades K-7.

Our current compensation and benefits structure is very competitive and is commensurate with experience.

  • Our current starting salary for a first-year lead teacher is $50,000

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Relevant Florida Teaching Certification or Eligibility for Certification in one of the following areas, depending on the content:
    • Art: Art K-12
    • Music: Music K-12
    • Theatre: Drama 6-12 or K-6
  • At least one complete year of teaching experience with a proven track-record of high achievement in the classroom

  • Passing a background check, as required by law

HIGHLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
