Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW
KIPP Public Schools Jacksonville seeks elementary teachers for our classrooms in the 2020-21 school year. Teachers are initially assigned one subject area and are responsible for creating a positive classroom environment, implementing curriculum, assessing students, collaborating with their team, building relationships with families, and other duties as assigned. Full teacher responsibilities are ultimately outlined by their school leader.

For the 2020-21 school year, teachers at KIPP Public Schools Jacksonville work from 7:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday and may have occasional meetings or special school events outside of these hours. Student hours are typically 7:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. Hours for teachers and students vary slightly by school. Every Wednesday is a student early release day (1:30 p.m.), which allows teachers to participate in weekly professional development.

Our Elementary School Model:
+ Kindergarten through second grade: some lead teachers in our kindergarten or first grade classrooms will work with a certified, novice teacher (fellow) in their classroom. In this co-teaching model, lead teachers share the responsibility and accountability of their classroom with the teaching fellow. Class size is ~26 students. A handful of classrooms in kindergarten and first grade feature a single certified teacher where class size is ~17 and is not part of the co-teaching model.

+ Third and fourth grade: all lead teachers in grades three and four are departmentalized.  A single lead teacher in each classroom is responsible for teaching specific subjects (reading/writing or math). Class size is ~26 students. In this model, most teachers plan for one subject and teach lessons to two classes of students.

Certification should be clearly indicated in the application.
