• KIPP Bessie Coleman Academy: Kindergarten – 7th grade
• KIPP Bold City High School (new, coming 2021-22): 9th grade

POSITION OVERVIEW
KIPP Public Schools Jacksonville seeks a founding Spanish teacher. In the initial year, the Spanish teacher would instruct the founding class of ninth graders.  In in the initial year, they would focus on Spanish 1 to lay the foundation of foreign language instruction. As the school grows, the Spanish teacher would instruct students across multiple grade levels and/or sections, and ideally run a club or enrichment block.

We seek a teacher that will be committed to providing quality world language instruction that sets students up for college access and as such, the Spanish teacher would ensure students are both exposed to Spanish and can meet the state’s minimum world language requirements for admission into Florida’s state university system.

This position would work closely with the electives department. Teachers are responsible for creating a positive classroom environment, implementing curriculum, assessing students, collaborating with their team, building relationships with families, and other duties as assigned. Full teacher responsibilities are ultimately outlined by their school leader.

For the 2020-21 school year, teachers at KIPP Bold City High School will work from 6:45a.m. - 3:45 p.m., Monday through Friday and may have occasional meetings or special school events outside of these hours. Student hours will be  7:15 a.m. -2:30 p.m. Every Wednesday is a student early release day (12:30 p.m.), which allows teachers to participate in weekly professional development.

OUR CURRENT MODEL
The model for the high school will change over time as more grade levels are added and the model is subject to change.

Students in the initial ninth grade class will have a seven period bell schedule. Electives teachers may have a homeroom and will teach several classes in their department in addition to a club or enrichment block.  Every student will be required to take two credits of the same world language course.

Our current compensation and benefits structure is very competitive and is commensurate with experience.

• Our current starting salary for a first-year lead teacher is $50,000

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's Degree
• Relevant Florida Teaching Certification or Eligibility for Certification in Spanish K-12
• At least one complete year of teaching middle school or high school Spanish with experience with a proven track-record of high achievement in the classroom

HIGHLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS   

• Two or more years of high school Spanish experience
