Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

KIPP Public Schools Jacksonville seeks an academic interventionist.  The interventionist focuses on supporting students as an extra layer of support beyond their core ELA instruction. 

The interventionist role is to pull groups of students, track academic progress, and ensure the students are accessing the blended learning pieces that support their academic growth. In addition, they will prepare lessons that reflect best practices and accommodations for individual differences of students. 

The interventionist will run their own classroom of students as part of the specials block of the school day. They will see every student across the school and provide enrichment and intervention. They will focus on small group instruction and assist students monitoring reading growth goals. They will assess student learning, through observations, authentic performance, and more formal methods, in an ongoing manner, providing frequent student feedback, information to parents and written progress reports. In addition to the outlined job description, they will perform duties as outlined by their direct manager.  These duties may include, but are not limited to, serving as a substitute for core content teachers, and providing any additional instructional support as needed throughout the school year. Full teacher responsibilities are ultimately outlined by their School Leader. 

For the 2020-21 school year, teachers at KIPP Public Schools Jacksonville work from 7:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday and may have occasional meetings or special school events outside of these hours. Student hours are typically 7:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. Hours for teachers and students vary slightly by school. Every Wednesday is a student early release day (1:30 p.m.), which allows teachers to participate in weekly professional development.

Our Middle School Model: 
There are four "homeroom" teachers on each grade level who each teach a core subject area. For example, there are four teachers on the 6th grade team and each staff members teaches every student on that grade level for one subject. Class size is typically about 26 students per class. 

Subjects on each grade level include English language arts, social studies, math, and science.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Relevant Florida Teaching Certification or Eligibility for Certification in one of the following areas:
    • Elementary K-6
    • Middle Grades English 5-9
  • At least one complete year of teaching experience with a proven track-record of high achievement in the classroom

HIGHLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Florida Reading Endorsement (or reading competency coursework in progress)
