The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV), and its sister organization, the Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence (EFSGV), are among the nation’s oldest gun violence prevention organizations. Through policy development, research translation, advocacy, community engagement, and effective training, we pursue evidence-based solutions to reduce gun death and injury in all its forms. 

CSGV has engaged Jumpstart:HR, LLC to partner on the recruiting and onboarding efforts for this position.

Job Description

The Legal Intern will work 20 hours per week over the summer and contribute in the following ways:

RESPONSIBILITIES
 

·      Track Federal and state-level gun violence prevention and suicide prevention legislation;

·      Summarize Federal and state bills relating to gun-violence reduction and police reform;

·      Track whether states have components of our suicide prevention recommendations;

·      Track legislation regarding Extreme Risk Protection Order;

·      Compile weekly summaries on prominent gun violence prevention news stories in priority issue areas (domestic violence, suicide, impacted communities);

·      Attend Federal and state gun violence hearings and markups;

·      Create and maintain resources, fact sheets, memos, etc. and analyze new research related to gun violence prevention;  and

·      Assist with partner identification and outreach, virtual meeting/event coordination.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

 

●      Bachelor’s Degree; Completion of at least 1st year of law school;

●      Ability to use data to affect popular narrative and policy debates;

●      Mission-driven;

●      Strong written communication skills;

●      Experience with Microsoft Office Suite;

●      Willing to execute day to day tasks and work independently; and

●      Ability to prioritize and follow through effectively.
