In this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining APIs and SDKs that train, fine-tune, and access AI models at scale. With a focus on Large-Language Models (LLMs) and Foundation Models (FMs), you will work with a team of exceptional AI engineers and researchers. Your work will involve designing and implementing key API products and services, enabling real-time customer-facing applications powered by advanced AI capabilities. Your projects may include architecting core APIs and SDKs, designing APIs for performance and scalability, developing application-specific interfaces, and implementing AI safety measures. **What You Will Do:** - Architect, build, and deploy well-managed core APIs and SDKs for LLMs and FMs - Design APIs for performance, real-time applications, scalability, ease of use, and governance automation - Develop application-specific interfaces that leverage LLMs and FMs to enhance customer experience - Enable users to build new AI capabilities - Create tools and processes to monitor API access patterns and operational health - Implement AI safety measures and guardrails in the API layer **Basic Qualifications:** - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. - At least 8 years of experience designing and building data-intensive solutions using distributed computing and cache optimization techniques. - At least 4 years of programming experience with Python, Go, Scala, or Java. - At least 3 years of experience building, scaling, and optimizing training and inferencing APIs for deep neural networks. **Preferred Qualifications:** - Familiarity with building large-scale AI products or platforms in NLP, speech, computer vision, or recommendation systems. - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with ambiguity, competing priorities, and deadlines. - Experience collaborating with researchers and engineers to improve product experiences while building foundational capabilities. - Knowledge of deploying large neural network models in demanding production environments. - Understanding of API security, observability, cloud access control, and privacy best practices. **Salary:** - New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $230,100 - $262,700 for Sr. Lead Machine Learning Engineer - San Francisco, California (Hybrid On-Site): $243,800 - $278,200 for Sr. Lead Machine Learning Engineer - Remote (Regardless of Location): $195,000 - $222,600 for Sr. Lead Machine Learning Engineer **Benefits:** At Capital One, we prioritize your well-being and offer a comprehensive, competitive, and inclusive set of health, financial, and other benefits.
