Penske Logistics is looking for a dedicated leader with relevant experience and skills to join our team of transportation and logistics professionals. We are seeking a candidate to supervise drivers at one of our locations.

The Operations Supervisor plays a crucial role in providing direction at a single location, leading the staff to meet customer requirements while aligning with our Penske goals and objectives.

In this role, Operations Supervisors have the opportunity to earn bonuses based on their performance and the performance of the location. Qualified supervisors could receive up to 12% of their base salary for outstanding performance.

Position Summary:

As an Operations Supervisor, you will provide operational leadership to our team, ensuring the execution of daily tasks and activities such as driver deliveries, loading/unloading of trailers, and customer service operations. Your role will contribute to company services and cost objectives. You will directly supervise various processes, including workforce and equipment scheduling. Additionally, you will be responsible for addressing any corrective actions and disciplinary decisions up to a written warning level. You may also be involved in the hiring process and attend customer meetings as needed.

Schedule : Saturday - Tuesday and alternating Wednesdays (Overnight Shift)

Key Responsibilities:

  • People
  • • Ensure all supervisors and associates are trained, competent, and understand how their work contributes to the customers' business objectives

    • Communicate specific and measurable performance standards to the team

    • Participate in the hiring process for hourly associates

    • Monitor attendance, productivity, and other performance standards, providing coaching and counseling as needed

    • Motivate and engage associates by recognizing team accomplishments

  • Operations
  • • Supervise logistics operations, including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch, and documentation control

    • Conduct team meetings

    • Evaluate and recommend changes in work methods to increase dispatch operations' productivity

    • Assist in training new associates

    • Provide coverage for operational duties during absences or time-off

    • Possess a thorough knowledge of the site's operating systems to ensure compliance and resolve exceptions

    • Complete necessary records and reports accurately and in a timely manner

  • • Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures, such as tracking MPG, returns, and damages

    • Understand the impact of decisions on profitability

    • Manage associates' working hours and activities to minimize overtime and meet productivity targets

  • Safety
  • • Align day-to-day management and associate activities with the location's safety strategy

    • Communicate, train, and provide feedback to ensure safety performance

    • Comply with regulatory agencies and company safety policies and procedures

    • Conduct safety observations

  • • Understand the customer's goals and objectives and strive to exceed expectations

    • Demonstrate commitment to helping customers achieve their objectives

  • Fleet/Assets
  • • Plan work assignments to maximize the efficient use of fleet equipment

    • Train hourly associates in safe and efficient equipment operation

    • Coordinate equipment maintenance with vendors and Penske Truck Leasing

  • Qualifications:
  • • 2-4 years of related functional experience

    • High School Diploma or equivalent required

    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

    • Strong ability to build relationships with associates and external customers

    • Effective time management and organizational skills

    • Strong written and oral communication skills, with active listening abilities

    • Ability to think independently, make decisions, and solve problems

    • Drive process improvement and lead change

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

    • Demonstrate ownership and a sense of urgency in running operations

    • Preferred experience in DOT and dispatching for dedicated contract carriage

    • Regular attendance is essential

    • Willingness to travel, work required schedule, complete Penske employment application, and undergo background investigation and drug screening
