Quantitative Data Engineer

Quantitative Investment Platforms and Developer Operations Team

The Opportunity

As a Data Engineer, you will work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment, focusing on exciting technology projects. A Data Engineer requires a unique combination of technical skills and emotional intelligence. Problem-solving and effective communication are essential for success. It is preferred if you have experience in Data Engineering, workflow orchestration, CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms, and system architectures.

The Team

You will join the Quantitative Investment & Developer Operations team, which is part of MassMutual's Investment Management organization. The team consists of highly skilled professionals who provide collaborative and portfolio risk solutions to portfolio managers. The Impact

We are looking for a passionate Quant Data Engineer who enjoys deploying data solutions and workflow automations. You should be comfortable working with business partners to understand their requirements and delivering robust solutions. You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining complex ETL jobs, ingesting data from different sources, ensuring data quality, and providing direction for the development of MassMutual's data platform. Additionally, you will collaborate with other developers, provide mentorship, evaluate new tools and technologies, and work in an Agile development environment.

The Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Finance, Business, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in IT, finance, or related industries
  • Understanding of ETL methodologies and proficiency in Python tools
  • Hands-on experience with Python and advanced data processing using Python libraries and AWS services
  • Experience working in a cloud environment and basic administration (e.g., AWS)
  • Experience with relational databases (SQL Server/PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (Mongo)
  • Experience with GIT and code review/deployment & scheduling operations
  • Experience in Agile/SCRUM, specifically in Story/Acceptance criteria development

The Ideal Qualifications

  • Master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field
  • 4+ years of experience in IT, quantitative, investment, or finance industries
  • Experience with troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Good knowledge of orchestration and scheduling tools
  • Experience with data reporting (e.g., MicroStrategy, Tableau, Looker) or Python libraries
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to work in a rapid and iterative development environment
  • Experience delivering mobile apps and app store ecosystems
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Data-driven mindset and ability to use quantitative tools and analyze unstructured feedback
  • Ability to adapt to changing business priorities and a strong work ethic
  • Curiosity regarding emerging digital and technology trends
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence outcomes
