About the TeamThe Data Scientist II is responsible for designing and implementing data science solutions. They work independently on tasks like data analysis, translating business problems into data stories, and applying statistical methods to solve complex issues. They collaborate with their team and occasionally with other teams to inform business decisions. They also provide guidance to junior colleagues and actively contribute to their community. The Data Scientist II plays a key role in influencing business decisions within their specific area.
Responsibilities:- Owning the design and implementation of Data Science solutions from start to finish, based on business requirements.
- Working independently on consuming and preparing data for analysis, translating business problems into data stories, and solving them with statistical methods.
- Collaborating primarily within their team to inform business decisions, and occasionally across multiple teams.
- Designing and interpreting quantitative experiments to guide key business decision making.
- Identifying and managing stakeholders, effectively communicating complex analysis results, and guiding junior colleagues in stakeholder engagement.
- Being flexible and open to new approaches, while leveraging existing internal and external Data Science methods.
- Using Data Science to drive impact and learning to incorporate scalability and reproducibility in their work.
- Acting as a mentor and coach to junior peers, and actively contributing to community projects and activities.
- Staying updated about the broader data ecosystem at Booking and understanding how it relates to their work.
- Collaborating with peers in related fields to ensure smooth progress of individual projects.
- Understanding the goals of their area and contributing to the goals of their wider business unit.
- Ensuring the quality of their work through peer review.
- Influencing business decisions within their specific area.
- Experience solving real problems using data mining techniques and statistical rigor.
- Strong technical skills in data analysis, statistics, machine learning, and programming. Proficiency in Hadoop, Spark, SQL, Python, and/or R.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to translate business problems into data problems.
- Strong stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in data visualization and storytelling with data.
- Knowledge of statistical methods and machine learning techniques.
- Understanding of data management and data science modeling.
