We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and walks of life. The Cardiovascular Intervention Center, an integral part of the Smidt Heart Institute, performs over 8,000 procedures annually. Our department serves patients ranging from neonates to the elderly. In this state-of-the-art facility with twelve laboratories, we conduct a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for coronary artery disease, heart muscle function, and heart valve dysfunction. As a Clinical Nurse III in our fast-paced Cardiac Catheterization procedure rooms, you will be responsible for applying the nursing process and delivering patient care. You will also receive cross-training to utilize your clinical expertise in circulating, monitoring, and scrubbing for invasive procedures for patients of all age groups. This role includes caring for cardiac patients from admission to discharge, even in prolonged procedure settings with x-ray exposure. In addition, you will be expected to provide on-call coverage for emergency procedures during evenings, nights, and weekends, with a maximum expected response time of 30 minutes. The schedule for this position will consist of three 12-hour shifts, with four out of every 12 weeks being a 4-day work week to achieve a full-time equivalent (FTE) of 1.0. Approximately nine times within a six-week period, you will be on-call during nights and weekends. For employees living more than 30 minutes from the facility, accommodations will be provided in a local hotel to ensure availability during emergencies. Educational Requirements: - A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is strongly preferred. Licenses: - A valid California RN License is required. - Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are required. - Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), Cardiovascular Registered Nurse (CVRN), or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) are preferred. However, candidates must commit to obtaining a specialty certification within one year of hire to maintain the Clinical Nurse III status. Experience: - A minimum of 3 years of acute care nursing experience is required. - At least 1 year of critical care experience is strongly recommended. - Prior experience in Special Procedures/Cardiac Cath Lab/Electrophysiology is preferred for qualification as a Clinical Nurse II or III, demonstrating competency in diagnostic and therapeutic interventions across all patient populations. A minimum of 2 years of appropriate Cath Lab/EP experience is required for qualification as a Clinical Nurse III. Otherwise, the candidate will be considered for the position of Clinical Nurse II. - Meeting clinical criteria and protocols for Clinical Nurse III (minimum 3-5 years of RN experience) is strongly recommended, with previous experience in Critical Care or Emergency Department. Physical Demands: - The ability to perform all direct and indirect patient care functions, with physically demanding tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs, transporting patients and equipment, maneuvering gurneys, and transferring patients from bed to procedure table. - Being able to stand for prolonged periods wearing lead aprons weighing 15-20 lbs. - Must have the ability to be on-call approximately nine times during every six-week period, including nights and weekends.
