Location: McLean, Virginia, United States of America Senior Director, Software Engineering - Card Authorizations Capital One's Card Tech Engineering Organization is looking for a Senior Director of Software Engineering who can lead, manage, mentor, and build exceptional software engineering teams. Our goal is to deliver groundbreaking technologies that benefit all of our customers. The Senior Director should be able to attract and recruit top talent while also having the technical skills to ensure that we create solutions that meet customer needs in an iterative and customer-focused manner. In this role, you will lead teams responsible for building and delivering strategies that promote the use of credit cards in the payments ecosystem. You will work closely with credit card networks, acquirers, and partners to develop next-generation credit card capabilities. From understanding the card payment ecosystem to supporting highly resilient and performant platforms, your engineering teams will create the future spend capabilities for our customers. As a candidate for this role, you will seamlessly switch between hands-on technology discussions and high-level strategic conversations. You have a natural curiosity for technology and keep up with emerging trends. You are not afraid to question existing processes and solutions, but you also understand the importance of business value and prioritize accordingly. You will: - Lead, manage, and grow multiple teams of product-focused software engineers - Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of engineers on your team - Work with product leaders to define the strategy, roadmap, and architecture - Manage a portfolio of technology platforms and projects to meet customer needs - Continuously improve software engineering practices - Collaborate with Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions - Ensure the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions - Stay up to date with tech trends, experiment with new technologies, participate in technology communities, and mentor other engineers - Encourage innovation, diversity, and teamwork Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree - At least 9 years of experience in software development - At least 7 years of experience in enterprise architecture, software architecture, or design patterns - At least 7 years of experience in people management Preferred Qualifications: - Master's Degree - 13+ years of experience in software development - 8+ years of experience in Agile practices - 2+ years of experience working on credit card authorizations systems - 2+ years of experience working with credit card payment networks Capital One offers a comprehensive set of health, financial, and other benefits that support your total well-being.
