The Cardiovascular Intervention Center is a vital part of the Smidt Heart Institute. We perform over 8,000 procedures each year, serving patients of all ages, from newborns to older adults. Our twelve-laboratory facility offers a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for coronary artery disease, heart muscle function, and heart valve dysfunction. As a Clinical Nurse III, you will be responsible for applying the nursing process and delivering exceptional patient care. You will work in a fast-paced environment, specifically the Cardiac Catheterization procedure rooms. Additionally, you will be trained in a variety of clinical competencies to assist with invasive procedures for patients of all ages. This role involves caring for cardiac patients from admission to discharge, including working extended hours in a procedure setting with x-ray exposure. You will also be expected to provide on-call coverage for emergency procedures in the evenings, nights, and weekends, with an anticipated maximum response time of 30 minutes. The schedule for this position includes three 12-hour shifts per week. Approximately once every twelve weeks, you will have a four-day week to complete a full-time workload. You will also be on-call for nights and weekends around nine times during a six-week period. If you live more than 30 minutes away from the facility, we will provide accommodation in a local hotel while you are on-call to ensure your availability during emergencies. Educational Requirements: - A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is strongly preferred. Licenses: - A valid California RN License is required. - Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are required. - Certifications such as CCRN, CVRN, or RCIS are preferred. Candidates must commit to obtaining a specialty certification within one year of hire to maintain Clinical Nurse III status. Experience: - A minimum of 3 years of Acute Care Nursing experience is required. - At least 1 year of Critical Care experience is strongly recommended. - Experience in Special Procedures/Cardiac Cath Lab/EP is preferred to qualify for Clinical Nurse II or III. A minimum of 2 years of appropriate Cath Lab/EP experience is required for Clinical Nurse III qualification. Otherwise, the candidate will be considered for Clinical Nurse II. - Meeting the clinical criteria and protocol for Clinical Nurse III requires a minimum of 3-5 years of RN experience. Critical Care or Emergency Department experience is strongly recommended. Physical Demands: - The ability to perform all direct and indirect patient care functions both physically and perceptively. This includes lifting up to 50 lbs, transporting patients and equipment, moving gurneys, and transferring patients from bed to procedure tables. - The ability to stand for prolonged periods of time while wearing lead aprons weighing 15-20 lbs. - Must be available for on-call shifts approximately 9 times during every six-week period, including nights and weekends.
