Job Description

What will be your mission ? ✨

This Engineering Manager position is special. 

 

You will join a new project to create a guidance course to train one third of French students (300k/year). This course should have a strong impact on the professional well-being of the population. The impact on the student and on the job market is monitored by a research laboratory. This project is funded by the French government. It's an intrapreneurial project fully dedicated to our mission, all doors are open. The team is attached to an existing tribe in terms of organization. 

 

As an Engineering Manager, you’ll report to our head of engineering and play a key role in one of our product tribes. In collaboration with the product manager, you will be responsible for the run and delivery of your squad as well as managing your team. 

Your mission will be triple : 

 

Team leader - You will be accountable for the delivery and the success of your team : 

  • You are the technical referent of the squad. You delegate work to your team members to imply them and be more efficient but at the end, you are the one responsible.

  • You organize/animate technical design meetings with the squad.

  • You synchronize and collaborate with other teams on cross-functional topics.

  • You follow up on actions and their progress. 

  • You work together with the product manager of your team to define the vision and validate it technically

  • You actively participate in the life of the team and other organization units (technical learning, mentoring, etc.).

  • You organize the team (process, tools, methodology, project management)

  • When the group is not aligned on a clear direction on a technical or process topic, you take the initiative and make the call

 

People management - You will be accountable for your team members: 

  • You are the N+1 manager of all squad developers (back and front) and manage their career plan. 

  • You regularly monitor the engineers of your team so that they are in perfect condition to carry out their tasks.

  • You support the skills development of your team and check their progression

  • You participate in recruitment with HR

  • You see the role of the manager as a facilitator, a coach, who helps team members learn more and progress better


 

Individual contribution - You will help your squad in development

  • You can evolve in an environment including: Ruby, Go, React, Kafka, gRPC, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Redis, AWS, Helm, Docker, Terraform, Jenkins, CircleCI, etc…

  • You manage to identify problems occurring in production at all levels of the stack (application, SQL, etc.).

  • You will be involved in improving our development processes, tools and standards.

  • You know how to lead the selection of an external provider to fulfill the requirements.

Qualifications

About you

 

This post is meant for you if : 

  • You have significant experience (more than 4 years) in development and at least 2 as team leader

  • You have a first significant experience in people management or coaching people

  • You show for yourself and for your team high level expectations

  • You are motivated to carry out the project of your squad from start to finish until the arrival in production (“you build it, you run it.”).

  • You are a good communicator and you are comfortable communicating with non-technical teams and understanding their issues and those of our users.

  • You are fluent in English.
