Jasper Therapeutics is a start-up company out of Stanford University with a lead clinical-stage program that is a first-in-class and potentially breakthrough antibody to safely replace chemo-radiation as a conditioning agent for diseases for which hematopoietic cell transplants (HCT) of allogeneic or gene-modified cells are the only known curative therapy. These diseases include but are not limited to rare genetic blood diseases such as the primary immune deficiency diseases, hemoglobinopathies, and myeloid disorders including myelodysplastic syndrome and acute myeloid leukemia. Additional potential indications include immune tolerance induction for the cure of autoimmune disorders and to facilitate acceptance of solid organ transplants. By creating novel, safe and highly effective conditioning regimens for hematopoietic transplantation, Jasper is leading the field with innovative clinical trials to safely bring cures to patients suffering from a variety of life-threatening diseases.

Job Description

Jasper is seeking a talented and motivated Scientist, Engineered Stem Cells. One of the first scientists at the Company, this role will be an integral part of the R&D team, contributing to the development of cell and gene therapies in a small, rapidly growing, and well-funded company. This role will report to the Director of Nucleic Acid and Cell Engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, execute, and analyze preclinical research studies across multiple engineered stem cell programs
  • Perform in vitro cell-based experiments (hematopoietic stem cell electroporation and ex vivo culture, flow cytometry analysis of cell surface and intracellular staining, cytokine profiling, cytotoxicity, proliferation, colony forming assay, etc.)
  • Perform in vitro nucleic acid-based experiments (enzymatic assays, gel or capillary electrophoresis, spectroscopy, etc.)
  • Perform molecular cloning experiments (PCR, Gibson assembly, bacterial transformation, screening, plasmid preparation, sequencing, etc.)
  • Design proof-of-concept experiments (spanning molecular and cell biology, pre-clinical mice models)
  • Design gene expression cassettes (access DNA sequence depositories and databases, read literature, analyze DNA sequences)
  • Collaborate with partners in Process Development, Regulatory, and Clinical groups to fulfill company objectives (Tech Transfer, IND filings, IP)
  • Present internally and in cross-functional meetings


  • PhD in Bioengineering, Immunology, Biological Sciences or a related field
  • 1+ years relevant experience in industry
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and genetic manipulation is required
  • Experience with mRNA and/or CRISPR genetic modification is preferred
  • Experience with multi-color flow cytometry, panel design, primary cell culture, cell sorting and/or data analysis is preferred
  • Experience in hematopoietic stem cell and primary immune cell culture is preferred
  • Experience with molecular cloning is preferred
  • Experience with microscopy is preferred
  • Experience in bone marrow and/or stem cell transplant using rodent model is a plus
  • Experience in HCT, cell therapy or gene therapy field is a plus
  • Proficiency in using data analysis tools such as FlowJo and GraphPad Prism is a plus
