Serves as the expert in identifying and mitigating risks that can affect asset reliability. The Reliability Engineer’s primary function is to reduce the costs associated with asset downtime by implementing an excellent life cycle asset management plan. They determine the risks that can cause the equipment to fail and outline the financial and production risks associated with these asset failures. They work to minimize downtime, reduce maintenance costs and improve overall product performance and safety.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Job Functions)

  • Conducting failure mode & effects analysis – Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) process to determine the potential causes of failure. Typically conducted on larger equipment or highly automated processes.
  • Performing predictive analysis – Perform predictive analysis procedures to identify when and how failure might occur. This predictive analysis can help plan maintenance procedures and develop effective asset management processes.
  • Planning performance evaluation assessments – Develops performance evaluation criteria and assessments for operational assets. These assessments and criteria essentially outline the benchmarks for asset performance, ensuring a productive and safe operation. These assessment help plan proactive maintenance procedures to avoid complete asset failures.
  • Developing and monitoring life cycle asset management plans – Develop plan that outlines several stages of asset management procedures. Ensure operational procedures conform to the processes outlined in the LCAM plan.

Will conduct a rigorous step-by-step procedure to identify faults in mechanical and electrical assets. Will conduct physical inspections and review design, manufacturing and assembly specifications.
  • Developing proactive maintenance procedures – Collaborates with engineering and maintenance teams to plan proactive maintenance approach to managing assets. This proactive approach aims to prevent failures from occurring, even if assets aren’t showing signs of failure. Vibration analysis, oil analysis, IR scans, etc.
  • Monitoring overall equipment effectiveness & performance – Will review the overall equipment effectiveness to identify potential issues with manufacturing equipment. Will investigate assets that might contribute to a poor OEE. Will develop and monitor other key performance indicators that isn’t currently captured through MES systems.
