Job Description

The Distribution Center Manager with food industry experience oversees all Supervisors and Team Members (Employees) in the DC Operations department in Laurens, IA and reports to the DC Manager.  The Operations Manager plans, directs, and coordinates the work activities and resources necessary to achieve production and execution goals and actively participates in on the floor daily work activities in all 3 temperature controlled environments (Dry, Refrigerated, Frozen Food). Communicates expectations to Supervisors; monitors plan execution and appraising of results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining of direct and indirect reports.  Food industry experience is required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The duties and responsibilities of this position shall consist of, but not be limited to, the following:

·        Ensures a safe, supportive and team oriented work environment

·        Ensures smooth operation of processes at the Laurens Distribution Center

·        Manages day to day operations to mitigate the company’s fixed and variable costs

·        Provide direct/indirect supervision to 15-20 Team Members.

·        Provides a working environment that allows Team Members to reach their full potential

·        Plan and manage all day to day execution aspects including staffing levels and productivity to maintain a cost-effective operation

·        Responsible for inventory & supply chain management, as well as logistics requirements

·        Improves operational effectiveness by fostering a continuous improvement environment; streamlining business work processes and procedures; and improving information transfer between internal departments

·        Helps establish and responsible for implementing departmental policies, goals, objectives, and procedures, conferring with management and staff members as necessary

·        Aligns company wide goals and objectives to internal resources, eliminates redundant work processes and procedures, and enacts plans to reduce overall business costs

·        Manages conflict resolution between Team Members and between internal departments

·        Train, evaluate, develop, coach and provide timely feedback to Team Members

·        Ensures safety observations are performed; coach/counsel associates on safety procedures

·        Works with HR, to implement Team Member corrective action procedures as needed

·        Uses reports and analysis to find ways to reduce production costs while lowering the cost of inventory, and delivering the product to customers in a cost-efficient manner

·        Monitors businesses and agencies to ensure that they efficiently and effectively provide needed services while staying within budgetary limits.

·        Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

 

 

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 Required Education:

·        BS degree preferred in Logistics, Supply Chain or Operations preferred. 

·        High School Diploma required.

 Required Experience:    

·        Five plus years' experience in Distribution Center management and operations experience in the food industry

·        Forklift operation and pallet handling equipment experience

·        Food grade (USDA or FDA) warehouse/distribution center processes and experience is required.  Experience in the food industry is required

 

·        Interacting with truck drivers and parcel delivery services

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES:

·        Ability to work cross functionally with teams both on and off site

·        Must demonstrate effective leadership, problem solving, presentation, and Team Member motivational skills

·        Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must work effectively with all levels of management and Team Members

·        Knowledge of distribution center models and logistics processes

·        Understanding and experience in LEAN management methodology

·        Proficient in Internet navigation, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

·        Experience with WMS and ERP systems

·        Ability to create and implement SOP’s/Standard Work

·        Ability to communicate professionally with people both inside and outside the organization

·        Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines
