Job Description

Join us as our Director of Corporate Safety to oversee the continuous development of Safety Policies and Procedures as well as the effective implementation of these policies across our US production facilities and distribution centers.In this role, you will ultimately be responsible for having an effective workplace safety program and culture in place and will direct the resources and activities of the organization to support the Health and Safety programs by providing advice and guidance to company management and senior management. This position has a significant influence on the company’s overall performance in the areas of corporate Health and Safety within an environment which the primary challenge is to continually maintain an appropriate level of awareness, knowledge, and preparedness across the JL organization to create a culture that prioritizes effective safety and balances overall associated costs. You will provide overall leadership, professional knowledge and expertise in the administration and support of Health and Safety processes for all aspects of SBS to include regulatory agency compliance, institutional policies, workers compensations, medical and human capital development.

Specifically, you will: 

  • Develop and provide technical and administrative direction on all safety and health policies and programs which bear critical importance to overall corporate objectives, operations, and profitability of the various plants and distribution centers
  • Directs and evaluates the performance of assigned staff; establishes performance requirements and regularly monitors performance and provides coaching for performance improvement and development; recommends compensation and takes action when necessary to improve performance deficiencies.
  • Oversee and enforce compliance with all OSHA, WC, EPA and DOT Regulations pertaining to company operations while maintaining awareness of OSHA (including PSM), EPA and DOT amendments and make recommendations for their implementation.
  • Manages environmental compliance by researching the required regulations and guidelines, forecasting prevention needs, and reporting on prevention plans.
  • Oversee and enforce compliance with all OSHA, and WC Regulations pertaining to company operations while maintaining awareness of OSHA and WC amendments and make recommendations for their implementation.
  • Managing workers compensation in multiple states to improve the quality and compliance of claims handling practices and overall success of workers compensation program.
  • Review internal safety policies and practices to ensure they are current and appropriate; conduct hazard and risk assessments and develop new or, where necessary, make recommendations to senior management to amend safety policies and procedures.
  • Create a work environment which reflects a commitment to protecting the health and safety of employees.

This position will report to Vice President – Supply Chain and Operations

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should posses the following education, experiences and skills:

  • Bachelor's degree required in risk management, industrial safety and health, safety engineering, safety management or closely related field.
  • 3 plus years experience in food manufacturing
  • Minimum of three years worker's compensation claims experience
  • Prefer 10+ years of progressive experience with 7+ years of safety management.
  • Prior experience with a large multi-plants
  • 75% travel to facility locations throughout the US

The work environment is a plant / office setting with varying degrees of temperatures and noise levels. Exposure to manufacturing equipment movement and wet / slippery floors. Travel may be required.
