Job Description

The Safety S[HK1] pecialist will work with the Safety Manager [HK2] [HK3] to coordinate safety programs for the Laurens, IA plant. Assists in the development, implementation, and management of safety programs, policies, and procedures. Must be aware of federal, state and local safety laws to ensure the organization complies with all regulations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of this position shall consist of, but not be limited to, the following:

·        Ensure safety observations are being performed to coach and counsel associates on safety procedures.

·        Assist leadership in improving company safety culture.

·        Advises Sr. Safety Manager on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions.

·        Ensure compliance with Federal & State OSHA standards as well as local laws (where applicable).

·        Assist in developing and improving company safety programs, policies, and procedures.

·        Maintain required safety documents/files including, but not limited to: SDS, training documentation, safety polices, procedure manuals, etc.

·        Responsible for assisting and/or conducting safety training (i.e. New Hire Orientation, monthly safety meetings, specific safety training, etc.)

·        Conducts post-accident investigation and assists identifying possible root cause(s).

·        Maintain corrective action plan for incidents or near misses in the workplace.

·        Ensure the timely reporting of all safety incidents, root cause, and corrective action.

·        Track and maintain sites OSHA 300 log.

·        Lead sites Safety Committee Team.

·        Maintain the sites Chemical Management Plan. Perform additional duties as assigned or required not specifically outlined in this job description .

·        At times, the Safety Specialist may need to enter production environments where temperatures range from 35-55 degrees.

·        Must be able to travel overnight at least 5-10% of the time

·        Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined by Jack Link’s attendance policy

·        Must be available and willing to work odd hours, weekends, or holidays as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs. 
 

 

 

 

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 Required Education:

 ·        BS degree preferred in Safety, Operations or related field preferred.

·        Associates Degree, working towards a bachelor’s degree in Safety or related field, or equivalent work experience required.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES:

 Required Experience:    

·        Two to Four years of related safety experience. OSHA 10-hour certification a plus.

Preferred Experience:

·        Preferred bi-lingual in English and Spanish.

·        Preferred forklift operations experience.

·        Experience working in manufacturing (food industry a plus) and related safety operations preferred.

·        Intermediate knowledge of computers and demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.

·        Strong verbal and written communication skills with a high level or accuracy and attention to detail.

·        Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on tact, coaching, and professional Manner

·         Motivational skills.

The work environment is a plant / office setting with varying degrees of temperatures and noise levels. Exposure to manufacturing equipment movement and wet / slippery floors. Travel may be required.
