Job Description

The Distribution Center/Plant Manager is accountable for the efficient operation of a fast paced, consumer packaged goods distribution center and production facility to manage expenses, minimize loss, and maximize revenue. Establish and implement departmental policies, goals, objectives, procedures and LEAN logistics. Oversees all of the functions and activities of the distribution center and production plant to ensure quality, food safety, accuracy, safety, cost and volume standards are being met.  Coaches and directs the development of the site’s leadership and management team to ensure team members are being challenged, motivated, and rewarded, and that processes being used maximize efficiency and accuracy. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES 

·         Manage the facility's safety initiatives, which includes cleanliness and plant sanitation

·         Accountable for creating a culture of continuous improvement leveraging LEAN logistics / practices

·         Collaborates with the Director of Operations to ensure plant production goals and key performance indicators, such as giveaway, labor, and floor loss are met.

·         Establish / refine processes with 3rd party providers specific to quality and performance

·         Develops talent by guiding, directing, and coaching leaders in the overall functionality and effectiveness of the distribution center and plant,

·         Drives site team member engagement through recognition and inspiring team members and leaders with effective communication

·         Establishing site departmental productivity, accuracy, and safety goals, tracking progress toward goals, and communicating progress to team members to achieve breakthrough performance

·         Interviewing and selecting of all leadership and key personnel. 

·         Developing departmental and management performance goals with leadership teams and completing performance appraisals, conducting performance evaluations, determining appropriate compensatory rewards, and handling discharges.

·         Help to determine metrics for site incentives

·         Oversee in-house training for team members

·         Plans and aligns work; Ensures consistent site operations by establishing warehouse guidelines, systems, processes, and procedures, as well as coaching leadership on more effective ways to streamline work flow and improve productivity. 

·         Maximizes the use of warehouse space by planning more effective uses of labor, inventory and equipment placement.

·         Develops and implements departmental business plans, processes and budgets which enhance the sites efficacy and efficiency.

·         Manages complexity; monitors successes, improvements and compliance with plan and budget, giving feedback to respective leadership.

·         Ensures the best value is negotiated on supplies, equipment, facility services and maintenance contracts.

·         Manages ambiguity; liaisons with other department managers to convey information to and from the distribution centers which would impact the order processing and shipping methods/timing to customers. 

 

 

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION

·         Bachelor’s Degree in business, supply chain, operations management or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

·         APICS or equivalent supply chain certification preferred.

 EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

·         10+ years managing high-volume warehouse with FTL, LTL parcel operations and optimizing for best practices and industry leading key performance indicators (preferably in CPG environment).

·         5+ years as an Operations/Manufacturing Manager, Superintendent or similar level, preferably in the food industry,  with multiple Supervisors reporting to the position

·         5+ years of LEAN experience

·         New distribution center start up experience (preferred)

·         Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) – Proficient understanding of warehouse management systems, their configurations, optimization and functionality to support the company’s distribution network (coupled with end to end Supply Chain operational processes).

·         Experience in successfully managing 3PL’s (Across all temperature states)

·         Experience with slotting strategies and Labor Management System (LMS)

·         5+ years in an operation employing an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) such as SAP, BPCS or similar system

·         5+ years of experience with significant responsibility for working with Quality Assurance (or Control), Accounting, Scheduling and Human Resources

·         Ability to work in a team oriented environment that is fast paced and demanding.

·         Demonstrated ability to influence in cross-functional situations.

·         Exhibits a strong ability to handle multiple demands with a sense of urgency, drive and energy.

·         Track record of developing and implementing change which positively impacts company performance.

·         Strong interpersonal skills to work cross-functionally with internal and external teams

·         Dependable, highly motivated hands-on manager who thrives in a “self-driven” environment.

·         The candidate will also possess knowledge of packaging equipment functionality and design.

·         Candidate must demonstrate integrity and dedication have a positive work attitude and strong work ethic.

The work environment is a plant / office setting with varying degrees of temperatures and noise levels. Exposure to manufacturing equipment movement and wet / slippery floors. Travel may be required.
