Job Description

As a member of the Infrastructure and Operations Team, the Systems Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining a mix of on-premise and cloud-based server and storage Infrastructure (across multiple sites within the United States, Canada, and Europe).  The Systems Engineer is expected to set goals, monitor server and storage infrastructure, and contribute to a range of projects designed to see the business grow and evolve.  The Systems Engineer plays a pivotal role in the planning, designing, implementing, monitoring and maintenance of all server, storage, backup, cloud, and disaster recovery infrastructure of the Jack Link's global enterprise environment.  The Systems Engineer must also have extensive knowledge of Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). 

Jack Link’s hires engineers who are not only technically competent but who are also willing to be challenged and thrive in a team orientated workplace. You must be capable of building strong collaborative relationships between the IT team and other Jack Link's business teams.  You will also need to have the ability to communicate complex server and storage technical knowledge and expertise to executive IT and Business leadership as required.  The Systems Engineer will work with the Senior Systems Engineer and Architects to provide a technical perspective to help process owners identify opportunities for technology expansion.

You will be expected to: 

  • Implement standard processes to identify, build and test standard server, storage, and Citrix environments, their associated hardware, software and security
  • Leverage extensive knowledge of SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS to help determine the best cloud-based application solution for business requirements.

  • Partner with site leadership to understand business requirements that pertain to the server, storage and Citrix services required to keep JLBJ functioning and provide technology solutions

  • Identify problem management trends and determine root cause analysis of issues

  • Identify non-value added manual support tasks and automate to reduce team impact

  • Engage with the Project Management Office (PMO) to plan for the testing and delivery of customer technology solutions

  • Effectively prioritize and execute tasks as assigned from internal and project teams

  • Utilize and update enterprise ticketing system (Numara Track-IT) to keep the record of work assigned and maintain expected incident management and service level agreements with the business and if necessary ensure timely escalation of client problems.

  • Perform Level 2 analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of technical problems for a variety of end users plus identify, test and implement corrective hardware solutions, including off-site repair, as needed.

  • Maintain an inventory of all server, storage, and Citrix components and infrastructure services

  • Track and maintain licenses in use and available for all server, SAN and Citrix components

  • Deploy standard server build images and provide cross-training to team members on server build image deployment and support

  • Validate training materials and procedures, and/or train users in the proper use of hardware and software.

  • Identify and standardize maintenance activities for the overall health of the server, san and Citrix environment including patching and upgrades

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

  • Provide on-call, off-hours and weekend support as assigned to support the JLBJ staff

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer related field or equivalent work experience

  • MCSA level experience/certification

Required Experience:

  • 3 – 6 years recent server, SAN and citrix support experience

  • Strong customer-service orientation.

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.

  • Able to read and understand technical manuals and procedural documentation.

  • Effective interpersonal skills and relationship-building skills.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of current technological developments and trends in industry.

  • Available for afterhours support as needed

  • Valid driver’s license and insurable.

  • Ability to travel to other plant location

Preferred:

  • 4-year technical degree in computer science field

  • VMWare experience/certification

  • Windows Server 2012/2016 experience/certification

  • Office 365 experience/certification          

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES:

Proven understanding of server, storage and Citrix components and services.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must work effectively with all levels of management and employees

Must demonstrate effective leadership, problem solving, presentation, and employee motivational skills.

Proficient in Internet navigation, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
